The Budget Department is looking for a strong analyst who can perform a wide variety of highly complex technical and financial analysis, revenue forecasting, cost analysis, and research of economic and financial data. If this is you, we would love to talk with you!
About the Position:
Performs a wide variety of highly complex technical and financial analysis, revenue forecasting, cost analysis and research duties in support of fiscal strategic planning and the preparation and administration of the city’s budget. This classification is responsible for researching and analyzing a wide variety of economic and financial data, interpreting the impact of economic trends on citywide budgets, and developing financial models, revenue projections, financial trend analyses and related recommendations.

  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Finance, Mathematics, or other related field from an accredited educational institution.
  • Five years of professional experience performing complex financial, economic or technical research activities in finance, management analysis, budgeting, accounting, or a closely related field.
  • An equivalent combination of education and job-related experience may substitute for the educational requirements on a year-for-year basis.
  • Preferred: Master's Degree in a business-related field.

  • Every person employed by the City of Scottsdale shall reside in the State of Arizona during his or her active employment by the City, regardless of whether the employee is approved to remote work.

Performs duties and responsibilities commensurate with assigned functional area within a department(s) which may include, but are not limited to, any combination of the following:
 
  • Performs highly technical financial and economic analyses, collects current and historical data, conducts research, develops forecasts and financial models to aid senior management in fiscal policy and budget strategy decisions.
  • Conducts comprehensive analyses and reviews of major revenue sources and key cost drivers for trend analysis, budget development and capital planning purposes.
  • Monitors city’s financial performance through evaluating data from different sources, conducting scenario analysis to forecast fund balance, cash flows and financial policy requirements.
  • Prepares monthly or ad-hoc reports and presentations for city management.
  • Develops and updates 5-year financial forecasts for city's General Fund and other major funds and operations to aid in city's strategic and budget planning efforts.
  • Develops and updates or assists with the development, update and review of enterprise rate models and other cost models that establish revenue requirements, cost allocation methodologies and recommendations for rates and fees.
  • Participates in internal workgroups to provide analytical insights and support for city programs and initiatives.

  • Work is performed in a city office environment.
  • Lift and carry storage files and computer reports weighing up to 30 pounds.
