What You'll Do

The Director, Research Partnerships will be responsible for leading the operations of our business line of research and scientific services based on 23andMe's unique cohort, dataset, and direct-to-consumer capabilities. You will be responsible for building and leading operational execution with a matrixed cross-functional team including Corporate Development, Alliance Management, Research, Product, Engineering, Finance, Legal/IP, and Policy. You will be responsible for partnering with cross-functional leadership to align resources/priorities and to execute on contracted projects with pharma, biotech, and advocacy organizations. You will also manage a team of program managers who lead individual partner projects.

Who You Are

You are a program management leader with a passion for operations and the demonstrated ability to bring structure to large cross-functional initiatives. You have experience working on collaborations with other companies and finding win-wins for both parties. A scientific background in a relevant biomedical field and experience working with contracts is required; knowledge of genetics and biotech/pharmaceutical industry is a plus. You will be successful in this role if you bring clarity for teams so they know what to prioritize and how to execute. You have the ability to influence without authority and can effectively manage diverse stakeholders in a highly cross-functional and matrixed organization. Equally important is a growth mindset and curiosity to learn in a boundary-pushing environment where the next deal may never have been done before.

What You'll Bring

  • MD/PhD or MS MBA in a relevant field
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in scientific program management or operations. 5 years in a senior role
  • Experience executing collaborative projects with biotech/pharma
  • Strategic thinking with outstanding business instincts, can help chart the course and translate strategy into operations
  • Ability to apply critical, strategic, and scientific/technical thinking to unstructured situations to make sound business judgments
  • Demonstrated ability to lead projects and teams with attention to detail, and to influence without authority
  • Resourceful self-starter with strong alignment with 23andMe's core values
  • Ability to work effectively in a dynamic, entrepreneurial environment and a bias towards 'win-win' collaboration at all levels
  • Ability to work from 23andMe's Sunnyvale, CA office a minimum of 3 days per week
