Job Title: Receiving and Loading Specialist

Location: Onalaska
Reports to: Purchasing and Inventory Control Supervisor

Status: Non-Exempt

Date: May 10, 2024

A Receiving and Loading Specialist at La Crosse Sign Group is responsible for efficiently handling incoming raw and project materials and loading outgoing signs and installation components. This individual ensures the accuracy of incoming shipments and outbound deliveries, while maintaining organized internal and external storage areas. This role is crucial in supporting the smooth operations of our fabrication area and crew installations by verifying and ensuring the accuracy of incoming and outgoing materials, while adhering to safety and quality standards.

What You’ll Do:

Receiving:

  • Inspect and verify incoming shipments, including signage for installation, against purchase orders and packing lists.
  • Unloads goods from trucks, containers and other transport vehicles using appropriate equipment within safety guidelines.
  • Inspects and checks all incoming materials for damage and reports discrepancies or issues to the Shipper and Purchasing and Inventory Control Supervisor.
  • Processes accurate documentation and record-keeping of received goods.
  • Reports incoming shipments to Installation/Operational Team Leaders per operating procedures.

Loading:

  • Prepare and load products/signage onto trucks, trailers, and other transport vehicles for delivery or installation.
  • Responsible for wrapping, loading and securing materials in a safe and efficient manner to ensure signs and associated components arrive safely and undamaged.
  • Will assist Installation and Service crews with loading materials for the day, and ensuring all components of the various installation jobs are at the truck shop and ready to go for delivery/install each morning.
  • Works closely with Install Crew Leaders to coordinate loads and schedules.

Inventory Management:

  • Assists in maintaining accurate inventory records.
  • Conducts regular stock counts and reports/corrects discrepancies.
  • Stores products, signage and various components in designated locations, and maintains the cleanliness and organization of those areas.

What You Need:

  • Experience loading and receiving materials, preferably handling components of varying heights and weights onto and off trucks and open trailers. 
  • Previous experience in a warehouse or logistics role.
  • Proficiency in operating forklifts and other powered industrial vehicles.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to lift and move large and sometimes heavy objects.
  • Basic computer skills for inventory and documentation purposes
  • Time management skills to ensure tasks are completed on schedule while still maintaining quality standards.
  • Collaboration and teamwork skills.
  • Willingness to educate and support peers and team members.
  • Commitment to quality and safety standards.

Working Conditions:

Operates in a demanding, fast-paced, people-oriented production environment with routine exposure to dirt, noise, temperature variance, chemicals, and solvents. Works primarily on concrete surfaces, occasionally on ladders and operates powered industrial vehicles. Deadline pressure is an integral part of the job with the potential for managing multiple project assignments. Works with a variety of people including vendors, customers, employees, and leadership.

Required Work Schedule:

Work hours are generally during normal operational hours 6:00am to 4:00pm Monday-Thursday with variable hours on Fridays, and an average of at least 40 hours a week. There may be small variations in work hours due to special projects, training new and existing staff, and meeting customer deadlines.

Physical Requirements:

Will alternate walking, sitting, and standing throughout work shift. Ability to work in a variety of positions including, but not limited to kneeling, crouching, bending, twisting, turning, and climbing. Must be able to climb and stand on a ladder for periods of time. Ability to lift and carry 50 pounds at times during the shift. There is regular use of the keyboard and telephone. Requires the ability to receive detailed information through verbal communication. Vision acuity corrected to 20/40.
