Founded in 1964, DelNature, a state affiliate for the National Wildlife Federation, is renowned for our educational programming, conservation, and advocacy. We provide the tools for communities to take action and promote the health of the environment through land preservation, wildlife protection, and watershed stewardship.

We manage over 2,000 acres of land, including four nature preserves, and operates four educational sites: Ashland Nature Center, Abbott’s Mill Nature Center, DuPont Environmental Education Center, and Coverdale Farm Preserve. Job Description

The Development Outreach Coordinator is responsible for implementing activities to connect with and engage existing and prospective members and donors through events, social media and other communications. Working closely with the Director of Advancement, the Development Outreach Coordinator is one of the most public faces of the organization, engaging with constituents and in communities to generate interest and support for our work. The ideal candidate will exude confidence and enthusiasm for our mission, be articulate in describing our programs and offerings, and will proactively work with the team to achieve and exceed our annual goals for membership and fundraising.

The Development Outreach Coordinator is a part of the Advancement Team and reports to the Director of Advancement.

Schedule: M-F 8:30am – 4:30pm and frequent nights/weekends

Responsibilities

Events – Coordinate and attend events to engage current and prospective members and donors

  • Work with the Director of Advancement and Fund Development Committee to support a suite of events aimed at donor cultivation and/or fundraising, attending events and managing logistics.
  • Collaborate with program staff and partners to identify and participate in events for attracting and engaging new members and volunteers.
  • Cultivate and provide tools/training to volunteers and staff from other sites and departments to assist with donor and member events, and to promote DelNature membership at all programs/events.

Membership – Develop and coordinate a member engagement plan with strategies for retention and growth

  • Identify and utilize innovative and creative approaches for building and growing membership, including diversifying our membership base and increasing member involvement.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to create mission focused messaging and content that inspires program and event participation to members, supporters, and prospects.
  • Work with Visitor Services staff to respond to in person, website and email inquiries and create a positive member and guest experience.

Social Media

  • Coordinate social media across DelNature sites and platforms and with other media (website, print, email), working with the Marketing Manager
  • Collect content and develop posts, working with program staff.
  • Implement social media posts to promote the organization and its work and programs.

Other – Provide general development support to the Advancement Team and other staff, time permitting, for activities such as grant seeking and tracking, appeals and other mailings, gift and membership data entry and reports.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Commitment to and passion for the Delaware Nature Society
  • 2 years of outreach, development or other related experience with demonstrated success.
  • BA degree in communications, business, or related field, preferred.
  • Understanding of social media and other outreach strategies to promote membership.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Self-starter and strong interpersonal skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Excel required.
  • Experience with or willingness to learn database and accounting software.
  • Flexible and adaptable to work a schedule that meets the needs of the various sites and events.
  • Punctual and dependable with the ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Ability to consistently interact in a positive and professional manner.
  • Willingness to learn new skills and share knowledge with others.
  • Willingness to perform additional duties at the request of supervisor, site manager, or leadership team member.
