Job Description SummaryUnder the direct supervision of the Aquatics Program Specialist. Lifeguard Instructor Trainers lead, instruct and motivate participants through the American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Training Class. They are responsible for coaching participants through safe and effective skills progressions by teaching and testing to the standard. This includes motivating energetically, providing feedback, assessing strengths and weaknesses, clear communication and the ability to follow the facility rules and guidelines. Job DescriptionESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Instructs adults in the lifeguard instructor trainer class.
Tests and evaluates class participants.
Enforces rules, regulations, and policies; maintains safety, order and discipline of participants, and/or players, and/or customers.
Performs customer relations role which can include interacting with participants, business or program partners, and/or city staff to provide information and solve problems.
Works as part of a team, attending training, orientation and/or staff meetings as needed
Lifeguard Instructors may work at any of the following locations: East Boulder Community Center, North Boulder Recreation Center, South Boulder Recreation Center, Scott Carpenter Pool, Spruce Pool.
Minimum Qualifications
Ability to provide excellent customer service.
Skilled in tactful and effective communication skills.
Clean and neat appearance.
Knowledge and abilities standard to the American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor program.
Ability to organize information and follow established procedures.
Ability to work well with adults.
Ability and willing to work scheduled hours. Available shifts are variable and flexible.
Experience demonstrating interpersonal skills, including conflict resolution skills.
Have and maintain acceptable background information, including criminal conviction history.
Preferred Qualifications
Weekday, weeknight and weekend availability (preferred, not required)
American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
Required Education And Experience

American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Certification
Minimum 1 year teaching experience
SUPERVISION Supervision Received: Water Safety Program Lead Supervision Exercised: None Working Conditions And RequirementsPhysical and Mental Effort Sufficient clarity of speech and hearing or other communication capabilities that permits the employee to communicate effectively on the telephone and in person and operate sound equipment. Sufficient vision or other powers of observation that permits the employee to review, evaluate and prepare a variety of written documents and materials, and students' swim form. Sufficient manual dexterity that permits the employee to operate computer equipment and other office equipment. Sufficient personal mobility and physical reflexes, which permits the employee to work in an office setting. Ability to work under stress from demanding deadlines, public contact, and changing priorities and conditions. Work Environment Works primarily in a clean, comfortable environment.
