City of San Marcos is Hiring an INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY ANALYST Near San Marcos, CA

We are seeking a versatile IT professional to join our Information Technology team as an IT Analyst. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in both IT system analysis and providing first-line technical support within an enterprise environment. You will be responsible for optimizing our IT infrastructure and providing hands-on support to ensure the effective performance and security of our systems, which include Windows 11, Microsoft 365 F3, G3, and G5 users, Microsoft Intune, Microsoft Defender, Windows Servers, and enterprise applications such as Tyler Enterprise ERP, CentralSquare Community Development (TRAKiT), and CentralSquare Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) aka Lucity.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • System Analysis and Optimization: 

  • Analyze the performance of IT systems and infrastructure. 

  • Identify areas for improvement and recommend solutions to enhance efficiency and effectiveness. 

  • Conduct root cause analysis for recurring issues and implement preventive measures. 

  • Project Management: 

  • Lead and manage IT projects from inception to completion. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define project scope, objectives, and deliverables. 

  • Ensure projects are completed on time, within scope, and budget. 

  • Business Process Analysis: 

  • Work with business units to understand their needs and translate them into technical requirements. 

  • Develop and implement IT solutions that align with business goals. 

  • Security and Compliance: 

  • Ensure IT systems comply with security standards and best practices. 

  • Manage and monitor Microsoft Defender and the entire Microsoft security stack to protect the organization's data and systems. 

  • Conduct regular security audits and vulnerability assessments. 

  • Technical Support and Troubleshooting: 

  • Provide first-line technical support to end-users for hardware, software, and network issues. 

  • Answer user queries via phone, email, or chat and resolve technical problems. 

  • Log and track support requests in a ticketing system, ensuring timely resolution. 

  • Escalate complex issues to higher-level support or specialized technicians. 

  • Assist with the setup, configuration, and maintenance of computer systems. 

  • Perform regular maintenance tasks such as software updates, backups, and system monitoring. 

  • User Training and Documentation: 

  • Provide basic training to users on how to use computer systems and software. 

  • Create and update user manuals and documentation. 

  • Document problem resolutions and updates in the knowledge base. 

  • Collaboration: 

  • Work with other IT team members to address systemic issues. 

  • Participate in team meetings and contribute to process improvement.

Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
Education/Training
Bachelor's Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field. Alternatively, an equivalent combination of education and experience may be acceptable.
Experience

Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in IT analysis, system optimization, and technical support.

Demonstrated experience in a similar enterprise environment.

Certifications
Relevant certifications such as ITIL, CompTIA A , CompTIA Network , CompTIA Security , Microsoft Certified: Modern Desktop Administrator Associate, Microsoft 365 Certified: Enterprise Administrator Expert, and other relevant Microsoft certifications.
Technical Skills
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows 11 and Windows Server environments.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 (F3, G3, G5) administration and support.

  • Experience with Microsoft Intune for device and application management.

  • Expertise in Microsoft Defender and the Microsoft security stack.

  • Familiarity with enterprise applications such as Tyler Enterprise ERP, CentralSquare Community Development (TRAKiT), and CentralSquare Enterprise Asset Management (EAM) aka Lucity.

Softskills
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Strong project management capabilities.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills to work with various stakeholders.
