The employee is responsible for providing screenings, assessments, and therapeutic interventions for all educationally relevant communication disorders within the school environment in compliance with all federal, state, and local guidelines. This individual provides support for teachers, administrators, and parents and develops or suggests materials to aid in school/home efforts in meeting the needs of exceptional children. The employee must be licensed as an SLP in the state of North Carolina. 

Duties and Responsibilities 

• Plans, implements, administers and coordinates speech-language therapy program. 

• Selects and administers appropriate assessments and treatment methods. 

• Develops individual treatment goals and activities. 

• Administers treatment and evaluates its effect. 

• Communicates effectively in both oral and written form. 

• Supervises SLPAs, as needed.

• Schedules and conducts IEP meetings to develop individual education programs as needed. 

• Instructs and monitors educational personnel and parents in the management of the therapy program. 

• Plans, coordinates, and conducts on-the-job training for a variety of individuals (teachers, parents, and school administrators) regarding the best ways to meet their individual educational needs.

• Participates in the Fee for the Service portion of the Medicaid program and maintains all appropriate documentation as instructed.

• Participates in the Medicaid Random Moment Time Study as requested when selected. 

• Maintains student files including the development of Individual Education Programs in compliance with federal, state and local guidelines.

• Plans and manages the speech-language therapy program within the school.

• Organizes and manages screenings and evaluations.

• Contributes to the RTI or MTSS process as needed within individual schools.

• Collects data effectively and provides meaningful follow-up consultation.

• Participates in determining and documenting material needs.

• Maintains clinical and administrative records in accordance with state guidelines and school policy.

• Collects and reports data on IEP implementation and progress.

• Attends staff development to maintain current licensure.

• Provides mentoring and CFY/SEY Supervision as needed. 

• Guards against conflicts of professional interests.

• Safeguards the confidentiality of students and records.

• Performs other duties as assigned. 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities 

• Demonstrates knowledge of speech-language therapy principles, theory, methods and their proper application, in the educational environment.

• Demonstrates knowledge of normal child development. 

• Demonstrates knowledge of general management practices.

• Demonstrates skill indirectly providing a wide range of treatment activities. 

• Displays the ability to compile a variety of records, reports, and documentary forms for EC services. 

Physical Requirements 

• Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment and tools including computer software, computer hardware, cables, etc. 

• Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 5 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. 

• Physical demand requirements are in excess of those for Sedentary Work. Light Work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. However, if the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work. 

• Requires the ability to talk and to hear: (Talking: expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken words. Hearing: perceiving nature of sounds by ears). Must be able to communicate via telephone. 

• Requires the ability to inspect items for proper length, width and shape. 

• Requires the ability to coordinate hands and eyes rapidly and accurately in using computer equipment. 

• Requires the ability to handle a variety of items such as computer equipment. Must have minimal levels of eye/hand/foot coordination. 

• Requires the ability to differentiate between colors and shades of color. 

Minimum Education and Experience

• Master’s Degree in Communication Disorders/Speech-Language Pathology.

• Minimum of one-year school-based experience preferred. Strong Clinical Fellow candidates will be considered.
