JOB SUMMARY:

Under general supervision, the Athletic Coordinator is responsible for organizing and implementing recreational activities and programs for citizens and promoting programs and services and encourages participation from citizens.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Responsible for developing, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating leagues, camps and athletic activities.
Assists in recruiting and evaluating seasonal staff and contract labor, determining schedules and fees, preparing program information for brochure publication and registration, enrolling participants, and informing participants of schedule changes, cancellations, and refunds.
Assists in preparing and maintaining daily revenue reports for athletic complex, facility rentals, special events and athletic programs.
Responsible for maintaining all athletic programs, registrations, and facility schedules on a computerized system.
Assists in coordinating the work activities of seasonal staff, contractual instructors and volunteers under the direction of the Athletic Manager.
Encourages and promotes participation among citizens, answers questions and provides information to the pubic regarding leagues, activities, and programs and investigates complaints and recommends corrective action as necessary to resolve complaints.
  • Performs other related duties, tasks and responsibilities as assigned to include assisting in the maintenance of general office functions and operations.

EQUIPMENT USE REQUIREMENTS:

Drives city vehicle including van and trucks.
  • Operates sports field time clock, electrical panel box, electric score boards, sports equipment, concession equipment, radio and public address systems, cellular phones, copier, calculator, PC computer.

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Knowledge of recreation principles and dynamics of programming.
    Working knowledge of recreational athletic program implementation, and evaluation of programs, activities and staff.
    Knowledge of public relation practices and principles.
    Ability to cooperate and interpret recreational philosophies to public.
    Ability to work as a team.Ability to utilize PC to produce memos, reports, program flyers and brochures, as well as class registration.
    Must have excellent communication and organizational skills.
    Knowledge of supervisory skills; Personnel motivation, interviewing, hiring, oversight, evaluation, and discipline.
    Ability to maintain routine records and prepare reports and have excellent organizational skills.
    Ability to effectively work and communicate orally and in writing with co-workers, the public, and City officials.
    Must possess great communication skills and be able to speak to the staff in a way that the message can be understood and comprehended easily and have the ability to work as a team.
    Ability to utilize a computer to produce memos, reports, and operate Point-of-Sale (POS) systems.
  • Must have the ability to work evenings and weekends due to the nature of particular operational hours.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in Leisure studies, Physical Education, or related field preferred plus two to three years of progressively responsible experience in the athletic field is required. Any equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certificate preferred but not required. Must have a valid Texas Driver’s license with a good driving record. Must be at least 18 years of age. Must be able to work additional hours in the evenings and weekends, due to the nature of particular programs.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Sitting, walking, pushing/pulling; lifting and carrying up to 35 pounds. Most of time is coordinating events (mainly sitting). May have to carry equipment/supplies to event. The strength demands are infrequent. The individual also acts as an umpire for competitive events. This requires constant standing and walking. Mainly works indoors, coordinating events will also dictate outdoor work. Responsible for preparing for athletic events indoors (volleyball, etc.), thus must be functionally capable to set-up these events.
