    POSITION DESCRIPTION
    Title: Coordinator of Teaching and Learning
    Reports to: Director of Curriculum and Instruction
    FLSA Status: Exempt
    Location: Prince Edward School Board Office
    Summary: Responsible for providing leadership and support to all instructional and administrative staff on the development of district-wide school improvement efforts to support instruction PreK-12. Take the lead to ensure that curriculum development and implementation meets high standards aligned to the Virginia Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework. Design and implement professional development for teachers to support the implementation of an aligned written, taught and assessed curriculum. Evaluate the implementation of the curriculum, including teaching practices and research-based instructional strategies.
    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Oversees the development and implementation of an aligned curriculum across all content areas PreK-grade 12.
    • Provides leadership to assure correlation between the PECPS Curriculum Guide and the Virginia Department of Education Standards of Learning and Curriculum Framework.
    • Develops, coordinates, and monitors the program of instruction for academic programs and oversees updates to the PECPS Curriculum Guide.
    • Ensures that the PECPS Curriculum Guide contains aligned assessments using a balanced approach to assessing students.
    • Collaborates with the Coordinator of Assessment and Technology to develop balanced assessment plans with all schools.
    • Ensures the PECPS curriculum includes culturally relevant resources, addresses equity to mitigate bias and ensures that all student groups are represented.
    • Previews new instructional materials and arranges training for teachers on the new materials.
    • Remains current on educational research and evaluates new instructional techniques for possible use by classroom teachers.
    • Assists in the evaluation of academic programs and their impact on student achievement.
    • Leads and coordinates division professional development of teachers.
    • Assists teaching staff with the implementation of curriculum and instructional materials.
    • Develops and implements follow-up plans for curriculum revisions and instructional materials.
    • Assists in the selection of instructional materials for all schools following an asset mapping process.
    • Coordinates with other coordinators to ensure alignment and support of the division’s strategic plan goals.
    • Works with building level administration to develop and implement the continuous school improvement process (data analysis, goal setting and action planning).
    • Assists with the coordination of instructional support for new teachers.
    • Assumes the responsibilities of director of division testing alternate (DDOT-2).
    • Supervises the English Language Learner program, K-12.
    • Maintains the division’s English Language Learner process.
    • Supervises the division’s gifted program.
    • Maintain the division’s Gifted Plan.
    Supervisory Responsibilities:
    Supervises the Instructional Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics Specialist, English Language Learner Teachers, Gifted Instruction Teacher, and Instructional Mentors
    Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:
    • Must possess a valid Virginia administrative license, advanced degree in curriculum and instruction or equivalent (preferred)
    • Must possess knowledge and skills in the development and implementation of a viable, aligned curriculum.
    • Experience in developing and implementing professional development on effective instructional practices and strategies.
    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    The Coordinator of Teaching and Learning must demonstrate the ability and professional and personal characteristics necessary for working effectively with school and division personnel. Must possess knowledge of curriculum and instruction design, have a strong foundation in teaching and learning pedagogical practices, and understand the application and use of the Virginia Department of Education resources for curriculum alignment. Must have excellent writing and public speaking skills, outstanding organizational and planning abilities, flexibility to work effectively with individuals and groups, problem solving and conflict resolution skills and strong leadership skills.

    Terms of Employment
    Twelve-month employment (244 days). Salary to be determined by the School Board.
    Evaluation
    Performance of the position will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Prince Edward County School Board’s policy on evaluation of professional personnel.
