Immigration Associate Attorney

Farmer Law PC is searching for an Immigration Associate Attorney for our Austin, Texas based law firm. We're looking for a candidate with strong research and writing skills, who has a passion for Immigration, to help take our growing law firm to the next level. A successful candidate for the Immigration Associate Attorney will be organized, have attention to detail, and enjoy working in a team environment. Growth potential in this role will come from showing successful comprehension of strategic vision, success in implementing and executing strategy, exemplifying positive and effective work and leadership with a team, and, strong legal research and writing skills. We are looking for a candidate with 1-2 years of TN Visa experience but general Immigration experience will be accepted. This position can be hybrid or fully remote depending on candidate location.

Compensation:

$80,000 - $120,000 yearly

Responsibilities:

1. Case Strategy Development: Evaluate and implement legal case strategies through thorough legal research and writing.

2. Case Reporting Oversight: Ensure the accurate weekly completion of case status, beneficiary expiration, and other reports, and convert this information into actionable items.

3. Case Management: Communicate with Senior Paralegals and paralegals to ensure cases progress according to internal timelines and government deadlines.

4. Team Meetings: Conduct and attend weekly meetings to discuss case progression, upcoming deadlines, and general case issues.

5. Legal Review: Review legal filings and other documents to ensure accuracy and compliance before submission.

6. Client Communication: Maintain excellent rapport with clients through effective communication, representing both the firm and the legal team.

7. Complex Legal Work: Research and prepare responses to complex RFEs, NODs, appeals, and other legal work.

8. Legal Research: Conduct legal research as needed for case strategy and other responsibilities.

9. Issue Escalation: Escalate any case, staff, or legal issue to the Founding Attorney for resolution.

10. Time Tracking: Track and record time worked on matters and administrative tasks.

11. Hiring and Training: Participate in the interview process for new hires, provide feedback, and assist in creating case-specific training materials.

12. Mentorship: Mentor and train Senior Paralegals and other legal staff.

13. Legal Updates: Stay informed about changes to laws, rules, procedures, and practices, and keep the team informed.

14. Process Improvement: Perform periodic spot checks on workflows and processes, reporting necessary changes to the Managing Attorney and Operations team.

15. Collaboration: Collaborate with fellow Associate Attorneys to solve legal issues and support firm goals.

16. Client Consultations: Assist the Managing Attorney with legal consultations or client meetings to sell legal services or educate clients.

Qualifications:

Required Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctorate degree from an accredited law school.
  • Member in good standing with a State Bar Association.
  • Licensed to practice federal law in the state of Texas.
  • 1-3 years of experience in business immigration law, particularly with TN visas, is highly preferred.
  • Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple cases and meet strict deadlines.
  • Commitment to maintaining confidentiality and ethical practices.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with other visa types and immigration processes.
  • Familiarity with case management software and legal research databases.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
