Requirements

Job Purpose 

The Strategic Gifts Advisor is a strategist and fundraiser with a passion for building mutually beneficial and impactful relationships. The addition of this position is part of the Food Bank’s comprehensive 5-year fundraising growth plan. The Strategic Gifts Advisor is responsible for securing impactful and transformational funding for the Food Bank of Northern Nevada’s mission and programs and is considered a major gifts officer role. This position is responsible for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding a portfolio of 125-150 individual donors and prospects with the potential capacity to invest five- to seven-figure gifts. As an integral part of the development team, the Strategic Gifts Advisor collaborates with other team members to identify and implement successful donor strategies. 

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • 5 or more years of relationship-based fundraising experience with a track record of growing portfolio revenue year-over-year and securing six-figure gifts
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate complex ideas to high-level stakeholders in a persuasive manner
  • Knowledge of planned giving concepts and vehicles and comfortable weaving into conversations with donors
  • Experience with CRM systems, structured moves management process, and entering contact notes in donor records

Required Certifications/Licenses (if applicable):

  • Valid Nevada driver’s license and proof of insurance.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

  • CFRE credential (Certified Fund Raising Executive)
  • Familiarity with the northern Nevada and eastern California Sierra philanthropic environment and existing and emerging philanthropists in the region
  • Essential Functions, include but are not limited to:
  • Identify, proactively cultivate, solicit, and steward a portfolio of 125-150 major donors, with the potential capacity to invest $5,000 or more per year but with a focus on five-figure and six-figure gifts. Uncover alignment between donor interests and FBNN’s vision and secure investment in organizational priorities.
  • Raise at least $1.9 million annually from the portfolio, with increasing revenue goals as the portfolio matures. Contribute to the collective development department fundraising efforts, currently totaling $9.1 million annually with projections to grow to $17 million in five years.
  • Achieve activity metrics that serve as a roadmap to the revenue goal: meaningful touchpoints, solicitations, and gifts. Utilizing the moves management system, be able to track a minimum of 50 personal donor touchpoints per month. Be able to report regularly on portfolio progress. 
  • Regularly analyze and report results against established goals and metrics; modify donor engagement strategies as necessary and appropriate to meet revenue goals.
  • Use FBNN’s CRM as a strategic tool for portfolio, pipeline, metrics, and moves management. Track all donor plans, interactions, and solicitations in the CRM within 48 hours, review records and reports to ensure accurate portfolio data.
  • Develop fundraising materials, such as briefing materials, request letters, proposals and personalized gift request materials for solicitation and stewardship meetings.
  • Provide personal acknowledgement for major donor gifts and ensure timely and appropriate thank you letters, calls, and outreach.
  • Demonstrate to each portfolio donor the impact of their philanthropy through stewardship meetings, activities, reports, and communications.
  • Collaborate with leadership, volunteers, and colleagues to engage portfolio donors in personally meaningful ways, ensuring a seamless donor experience and maximizing every opportunity for engagement.
  • Participate in regular strategy sessions and team meetings to share insights and contribute to the overall success of the fundraising program. 
  • Support and attend organization events and use the opportunity to proactively deepen relationships and secure follow-up meetings.
  • Participate in external speaking engagements when appropriate to help build FBNN’s brand within the community and build relationships within the community.
  • Keep abreast of relevant fundraising and food bank industry trends and best practices.
  • Maintain absolute confidentiality regarding all donor records, transactions, data, research, and communications, respecting the anonymity of each donor’s identity, as directed by the donor and department policy.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director of Development.

Travel

  • Ability to travel within the Food Bank’s 90,000-square-mile service area in northern Nevada and the eastern California Sierra to engage with donors and prospective donors, which might occasionally require overnight arrangements
  • Ability to travel occasionally for fundraising training and conferences

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, exempt position. Days and hours of work are typically 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday; however, this position requires occasional evening, weekend and on-call responsibilities. There will be occasional overnight travel to engage with donors and attend training and conferences.

Supervisory Responsibility

This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment/Physical Demands

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job the employee regularly works in an office setting approximately 30-50% of the time and is engaging with donors outside of the office 50-70% of the time. 

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers, to handle, feel, and type. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The Employee may need to occasionally lift 25-30 pounds. Vision abilities required by this job include close vision. Employee utilizes a computer in the performance of duties.
