MAJOR TASKS, DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (This job description does not intend to list every function of the position.) ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Operates, loaders, dump trucks, patch trucks, closed circuit television (CCTV) van, grader, excavator, paver, rollers, patch truck, skid steer snowplows, snow and ice equipment, asphalt repair work, , grading roads etc. Participate in the response team roster and utility locates. Performs other maintenance duties as needed, including laboring on various crews, cleaning equipment, yard work and office functions. Assist the Utilities Department in repair water and sewer breaks. Assists with design, purchasing, scheduling and installing new assets. Asset inventory/data collection Operates a variety of power hand tools and power-driven equipment such as jackhammers, air compressors, pumps, welding, forklifts, backhoes and trucks and various power equipment used in construction and maintenance work. Assists in the installation, maintenance and repair of water services, valves, mains, hydrants and meters. Utility and street maintenance routine/proactive maintenance. Plows and sands City streets during winter months. Trains and instructs new employees. Fills in as maintenance lead person in absence of lead person, which includes giving instruction in the field. Adjusts, inspects, cleans and performs minor maintenance on vehicular and non-vehicular equipment. Cleans and maintains tools; cleans work and shop area. Performs physically arduous work outdoors. Logs daily work activities and inspection records of City facilities. Follows prescribed safety measures. Performs other duties as assigned. Must be able to interact with others in a positive manner. Requires regular and prompt attendance. Must maintain and utilize City-provided Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) when conducting activities where the employee is exposed to risks above those encountered in a traditional office setting. If injured on-the-job due to failure to utilize PPE a safety violation can be taken. IMPORTANT JOB FUNCTIONS Assists in coordinating daily work schedules. Interacts with citizens and others in a positive manner. Performs utility locations. Assists in reads, repairs and operates water meters and related equipment. On-call duty on a rotating basis (voluntary except for the water and sewer section, where it is mandatory). Create and complete task using Cartegraph. Supervision Given None ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities) Education High school diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of training in technical aspects of public works maintenance operations. Successful completion of training in interpersonal skills. Experience Two years experience in public works maintenance operations or equivalent related field. Licensure/Certification/Registration Valid CDL Class B license with tanker and air brake endorsement. Background check required. Certified flag person Certified as skilled operator: Single axle dump trucks Skid steer Tandem axle dump trucks De-ice truck Wheel loader Patch trucks Rollers Snowplows Street Sweepers Fork lifts Sewer cleaning equipment. PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Service on division, department or city-wide committees. Completion of vocational or college-level courses.
