Guilford Technical Community College is Hiring a Technician, Assessment Near Jamestown, NC

The jobholder is responsible for assisting and supporting all of the activities of the Assessment Center. These activities include but are not limited to: administering placement testing of incoming students, proctoring make-up testing for instructors, planning of testing needs for each type of test administered within the Assessment Center, coordinating with personnel in other departments for additional testing needs, proctoring of tests for students from other institutions, facilitating third-party testing (Pearson Vue, Workkeys, Prov, etc…), and other duties as assigned.
Mid Salary $38,727.09 - We offer a competitive salary package that will be determined based on the candidate's experience level and qualifications related to the job. Compensation will be commensurate with your level of experience. Duties/Functions
  • Provide testing materials and proctor placement and faculty tests for prospective and enrolled students. Proctor TEAS, TABE, CLEP, MOS, RISE, and OPAC tests as required.
  • Assist in the maintenance of testing records for students and faculty.
  • Interact with faculty to coordinate faculty make-up testing services
  • Maintain test security at all times
  • Maintain an environment conducive to testing.
  • Assist the coordinator with testing issues that arise with students, faculty, staff, computers, tests, and/or testing agencies.
  • Assist with data entry as required
  • Perform all duties as assigned by supervisor.

Education Required
An Associate’s degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution is required and should be in a field related to customer service, communication, psychology, sociology, office administration or other similar fields.
Education Preferred
A Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited post-secondary institution is preferred and should be in a field related to customer service, communication, psychology, sociology, office administration or other similar fields.
Experience Required
  • Demonstrated recent progressively responsible experience providing administrative support.
Experience Preferred
  • Experience working with students in a higher education setting, including Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and students with learning challenges.
KSA Required
  • General knowledge of the community college system and the philosophy of comprehensive community colleges.
  • Demonstrated strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in written form.
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision.
  • Demonstrated ability to solve problems independently.
  • Basic proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook)
  • Exceptional organizational skills and deadline management with the ability to prioritize projects and tasks.
  • Strong verbal skills and personable manner in dealing with the public in person and on the phone.
  • Punctuality and flexibility in time management.
  • Neat, professional appearance and attire.
  • Must be willing to work flexible schedules as needed.
  • Ability to travel between campuses on a weekly basis.
KSA Preferred Department/Job Specific Requirements
The following (compliance) training is required and must be completed within the first 30 days of hire with annual refresher training thereafter:

  • Other training may be required as determined applicable.
Physical Demands
  • The individual selected must be able to work days, Monday – Friday. This position will also require some evening and Saturday hours. A work schedule will be established by the supervisor based on the needs of the department.
  • The individual selected will be required to adjust work schedule in order to provide assistance during peak times such as registration and other activities as assigned.
  • This position requires the usual sitting, data entry, standing and some lifting of light objects, not to exceed 25 pounds.
  • Travel outside the area may be required to attend organizational and developmental activities.
  • Typically the departmental hours are 8 am – 7 pm Monday through Thursday, and 8 am – 5 pm on Friday. Occasional Saturday hours from 9 am – 1 pm (as scheduled). A 40 hour work schedule will be established within these hours.
