POSITION: (FT) Faculty and Chair, Advanced Studies, College of Education & Liberal Arts

Effective immediately: (FT) Faculty and Chair, Advanced Studies, College of Education & Liberal Arts, Wilmington University.

Requirements:
A Doctorate degree is required. Candidate must have licensure and experience as a K-12 Classroom Teacher, School Building Educator / Specialist, or School Building Leader / Principal. The incumbent must have a minimum of 5 years of proven teaching excellence in education, including preparation in teaching and learning principles, curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Established leadership experience in a major academic setting; experienced in teaching or Educator Preparation Provider as a Program Chair, Leader, or Full Time Faculty.Must have excellent customer service skills. Must be a self-starter with evidence of strong interpersonal skills, problem-solving skills, service orientation, active listening, effective organizational, verbal, and written communication skills. Must have the ability to work independently, but also as a team member. Must be able to multi-task and prioritize tasks. Must be computer literate and proficient in Microsoft Office products, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Candidate should, but not necessarily have knowledge of SharePoint, SmartCatalog, Website, Social Media, LMS/Canvas – Basic/HOT/Cyber, Synchronous online teaching tools (i.e. Zoom). Knowledge of database management systems and standards, preferably Taskstream (Watermark). Evidence of good judgment and decision-making. Must demonstrate respect for diversity in the workplace and a commitment to creating an inclusive and supportive work environment that values the contributions of all employees. Ability to maintain professionalism and confidentiality in all situations is required.

Responsibilities include (but are not limited to):
  • Demonstrate an unwavering commitment to the mission, vision, and values of Wilmington University and advocacy of the principles outlined in the College of Education’s Conceptual Framework.
  • Address student needs in a timely fashion of customer service by taking “good care” of students.
  • Manage the overall operations and curriculum of the assigned academic program(s) ensuring that the programs comply with any internal requirements such as program review and outcomes assessment as well as external requirements for approval, accreditation, and licensure.
  • Advocate for educational reform, innovation, equity, diversity, inclusion and opportunity.
  • Work to eliminate barriers to student progress and success at all levels.
  • Model best practice teaching strategies and demonstrate caring and supportive relationships with students.
  • Ensure that course syllabi are developed and maintained according to college standards and that course format, content, and expectations are contemporary, challenging, relevant, and rigorous.
  • Prepare course schedules and faculty assignments in cooperation with the Director, the Dean, and the Registrar.
  • Teach five COE courses per academic year and serve as an advisor for degree candidates.
  • Manage the annual Wilmington University program review process.
  • Review and approve Change of Major forms; advise/meet with students as necessary and appropriate.
  • Oversee and approve credit transfer evaluations.
  • Ensure that program offerings align with all applicable Delaware regulations.
  • Organize and meet with an advisory committee on a regular basis, and document those meetings (agenda, outcomes, decisions, etc.).
  • Recruit adjunct faculty, ensure that they are qualified to teach program courses, and appraise their performance. This includes reviewing CATS data for each block and following up with faculty as required.
  • Ensure that adjunct faculty meet all non-instructional responsibilities in a manner consistent with University policies (attendance, grade reporting, etc.)
  • Ensure that adjunct faculty meets all training requirements and qualifications required by the University and the College.
  • Mentor new faculty and make sure they understand and model the University's mission, vision, and values.
  • Monitor and evaluate the teaching practices of all those serving as instructors in the programs for which the chair is responsible.
  • Ensure that all faculty understand, advocate for, and apply the principles defined in the College of Education Conceptual Framework and University/College values and priorities.
  • Work closely with academic advisors and student service staff (admissions, registrar, financial aid, student affairs, etc.) to help facilitate student progress and satisfaction.
  • Maintain professional and positive relationships with faculty and staff of the College of Education as well as with University administration and faculty/staff of other colleges.
  • Work to achieve and maintain reasonable program growth and quality.
  • Mediate student grade appeals, student complaints and grievances, and cases of student conduct violations.
  • Develop and maintain close and mutually beneficial partnerships with schools, school districts, and education officials in the region.
  • Attend all university and college chair meetings and professional development days. Participate in monthly Chairs Roundtable meetings offered by the Center for Teaching Excellence.
  • Demonstrate high levels of competence in oral and written communications with all stakeholders (students, faculty, staff, administration, and the community).
  • Promote and foster an inclusive and diverse environment for all students, faculty, and staff.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Associate Professor /Director, Division of Education.

Hours of Employment: Generally, Monday – Friday: 10:00am – 6:00pm Evening hours as needed for course load or meetings /events. Occasional weekends as needed for special events. Required to attend all Graduation ceremonies, Doctoral recognition events, College meetings, Faculty Senate meetings and sub-committee meetings, and Professional Development Day events.

Hours will vary depending on program needs and circumstances. This is a professional position that does not specify daily working hours. The position requires periodic travel to other sites as well as some availability during evening hours (5-10 p.m.) in order to teach and/or supervise classes and to interact with adjunct faculty and candidates.
