Job Summary:
JES Tech is looking for a Lead Systems Engineer to provide critical systems engineering leadership for NASA at Johnson Space Center. NASA continues to evolve it's systems for exploration missions including Gateway, lunar surface, Mars transit, and Mars surface missions. This position will support projects as a lead systems engineer developing and integrating next generation technology, processes and design, into solutions that will enable astronauts and the program to safely execute missions beyond low earth orbit.
The Lead Systems Engineer will define and manage system requirements, verification and validation activity, help define the system architecture, define system interfaces, evaluate system characteristics and performance, lead integration efforts, participate in testing of work products and support the lifecycle review process. Additional duties include participation in design reviews, risk and opportunity management and leveraging subject matter experts to execute technical strategy. This position will also routinely be required to work with innovative technology, design and processes developed internally by NASA and externally by leading technology companies and will perform trade studies and execute down select.
Responsibilities:
• Responsible for compliance with Safety, Health and Environmental plan; must be committed to a high standard of safety and be willing and able to comply with all safety laws and all of the Company’s safety policies and rules and must be willing to report safety violations and potential safety violations to appropriate supervisory or management personnel
• Responsible for compliance with the Quality Assurance Plan, policies and procedures
• Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance level as determined by the Company
• Responsible for completing all assigned training
• Responsible for creating and delivering systems engineering artifacts such as Concepts of Operations, requirements, traces, allocations, system architectures and design solutions, trade studies, interface definitions, verification and validation planning and execution
• Ability to work within a dynamic team environment
• Ability to participate in system testing
• Ability to perform system operations and sustainment activities
• Excellent skills in both written and verbal communication
• This position is expected to be 100% onsite.
Requirements
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Required
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in a related discipline with at least 3 years experience
• Experience with leading technical projects
• Understanding the Systems Engineering Lifecycle process
• Experience designing and leading complex system development which includes both hardware and software configuration items
• Ability to occasionally travel
• Experience with interpersonal skills in a teaming environment where collaboration and communication are critical to the functioning of the team
• Experienced technical problem solver
Desired
• Passion for Systems Engineering
• Experience in systems engineering involving system requirements, functional decomposition and allocation, functional integration, integrated design, analysis and evaluation, verification
• Requirements Development
• Experience with Development Assurance, Certification and Safety Analysis
• Cradle or DOORs or similar requirements development software and its application across all elements of systems engineering and artifact linkage
• Model Based Systems Engineering
SKILLS/TRAINING
Required
• Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to communicate effectively with project managers, project leads, customers, and with contract colleagues is essential.
• Ability to attain and maintain respect and confidence of the customer and contract personnel. A close, cooperative customer interface is essential.
• Mature, professional judgment in establishing objectives, milestones and priorities.

• Experience with NASA or DoD Work Instructions and MBSE practices
