Position Summary

Carroll School seeks a Middle School Makerspace Teacher with a growth mindset and a true passion and commitment to lifelong learning. Candidates who are motivated by helping students to attain a strong sense of identity, self-worth and who are eager to equip students with skills and strategies for academic success. The ideal candidate brings a collaborative style, is self-directed, child-centered, and values a community of highly engaged, compassionate, motivated educators who embrace and apply culturally responsive teaching practices. We are seeking candidates with experience and/or interest in teaching students with language-based learning differences and who are drawn to acquire the necessary competencies to successfully teach our type of learners.

Responsibilities

• Partner with the current Makerspace faculty to develop a program that meets the needs of students in an ever-changing, 21st-century world.
• Assist in building a curricular integration program for other teachers interested in project-based learning and makerspace technology.
• Foster a maker mindset in the community among students and faculty/staff. This includes modeling curiosity, collaborating with others, welcoming all forms of creativity, and embracing mistakes.
• Maintain a healthy environment and ensure the safe operation of all tools and equipment (e.g. laser cutters, 3D printers, hand tools, electronics equipment, etc.).
• Continue to research and learn new skills and techniques that can be brought into the curriculum to advance the development of the makerspace program.
• Remain flexible in a fast-paced environment between lead teaching, co-teaching, and supporting other teachers in the makerspace.
• Work in extended day program for at least 1 session a year for the first three years.
  • Choices may include: supervised study hall, sports coaching, art, Bounders, Makerspace
  • Additional compensation for extended day work

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree, Master’s Degree preferred
• Experience using makerspace technology preferred
• Willingness to train in highly specialized approaches to teaching students with language-based learning differences
• Proficient written and verbal communication skills
• At least 3 years teaching experience preferred
