Zurich is currently hiring a Construction Casualty Underwriter (Level I or II) to join the team in Overland Park! While this role requires you to work out of our Overland Park office, you will have the flexibility to work on a hybrid basis. You will partner with your manager to set a flexible work schedule that supports you, our customers, and our brokers and agents. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and brokers and be in the office/market three days per week.

As a Construction Casualty Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal accounts across Auto, GL, Worker’s Compensation, Property and Umbrella. This role will be filled at either the Construction Casualty Underwriter I or II. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skillset relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

The Construction Casualty Underwriter will be responsible for:

  • Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end to end solution for their insurance needs.
  • Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing
  • Using risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale
  • Market facing and production within the growing Construction division
  • Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
  • Working within broad limits and authorities on highly complex assignments

Construction Casualty Underwriter I Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 1 or more years of experience in the Insurance or Market Facing area or in Banking, Mortgage, Finance, Construction OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 2 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
  • Knowledge of the insurance industry and the legal and regulatory environment
  • Knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, national/local filing regulations and guidelines

OR

Construction Casualty Underwriter II Requirements:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area or in Banking, Mortgage, Finance, Construction OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 6 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 1 or mzore years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area or in Banking, Mortgage, Finance, Construction OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 4 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area AND
  • Knowledge of line/s of business and the legal and regulatory guidelines
  • Knowledge of time restraints for quotes on new and renewal business
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Technical knowledge of Construction Casualty Underwriting
  • Established broker relationships (retail brokers) within Missouri, Kansas and Iowa
  • Sales execution mindset
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The combined salary range for this position is $58,700.00 - $121,700.00. The proposed salary range for the Level I is $58,700.00 - $96,200.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%. The proposed salary range for the Level II is $74,300.00 - $121,700.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 10%.
