                                              JOB DESCRIPTION

Position:               Social Worker

Reports to:            Director of Special Education

Site:                      Central Office

FLSA Status:        Professional Exempt

Contract Length:   9 months/188 days

 

Purpose:      Provide a problem solving service to children and their families,, serve as a member of diagnostic teams and is a member of education al planning and placement committees and information/recommendations.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

                  

                   A Master’s degree in Social Work or related field;

                        Licensed as a master Social Worker; Independent or Clinical Social Worker (LISW or LCSW) preferred

                        Minimum of 500 clock hours supervised social worker practicum;

                        Five years of experience in Social Work;

                        Verifiable demonstrated progressive leadership experience;

                        Must be able to obtain Medicaid Provider number;

Knowledge of Regular and Special Education Federal Medicaid Billing processes;

                        Working knowledge of Student Assistance Team and Response to Intervention helpful;

Must have strong verbal and written communication, technology and budget management skills;

Ability to build effective relationships with students, community, parents, staff and general public.

 

Essential Duties:

 

  • Performs casework services with individual students to correct those personal, social, or emotional maladjustments related to their educational and social progress;
  • Coordinates or serves as a member of diagnostic teams and educational planning and placement committees and provide biological, psychological and sociological assessment information related to planning for children with adjustment difficulties;
  • Consults and collaborates with other school personnel in gathering and giving information on a case, and in establishing a planning for respective roles in the modification of the student’s behavior;
  • Performs casework service with parent(s) as an intergral part of the task of helping students to collaborates with others (e.g. district superintendent, teachers, building principals, other professional staff, parent groups, community organizations, public agencies, etc) for the purpose of implementing and maintaining services in accordance with programmatic and regulatory requirements;
  • Consults with districts special education/general education staff for the purpose of maintaining existing programs and implementing new services in accordance with established timeframes, professional standards and related requirements;
  • Develops long and short range plans in relation to assigned administrative responsibilities (e.g. policies, procedures, staffing, materials, equipment, space requirements, etc.)       for the purpose of implanting special education programs/services and complying with local, state, and federal regulations;
  • Develops proposals, new programs and grant opportunities for the purposes of ensuring compliance with local, state and federal regulations and meeting district goals.
  • Directs the implementation of existing and new programs/services through a combination of delegation and personal involvement for the purpose of ensuring new programs/services are provided within established timeframes in conformance with all related requirements.
  • Facilitates meetings that my frequently involve a range of issues for the purpose of evaluating situations, identifying appropriate actions, developing recommendations and/or implementing desired program changes;
  • Manages assigned programs and/or services for the purpose of achieving outcomes in relation to program objectives and ensuring conformance with legal, financial and districts’ requirements;
  • Monitors a variety of administrative processes for the purpose of preparing reports, etc., authorizing financial transactions, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations;
  • Monitors assigned program/services for the purpose of ensuring stated outcomes are achieved, relevant policies and procedures are addressed, and services are efficiently provided within budgetary guidelines and federal/state regulatory guidelines;
  • Participates in a variety of meetings as required (e.g. workshops, inter and intra district committees, community and public agencies, seminars, conferences, etc.)
  • Prepares a wide variety of often complex materials (e.g. plans, funding requests, reports analyses, recommendations, procedures, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities and issues, meeting compliance requirements, providing audit references, making presentations, and/or providing supporting materials for requested actions;
  • Presents information on a variety of topics related to administrative responsibilities (e.g. financial information, overviews of programs/services, policies and procedures, etc.) for the purpose of providing general information, training others, implementing actions, etc.;
  • Researches information required to manage assignments (e.g. relevant policies, new federal and state statutory regulations, staffing requirements, financial resources, etc.);
  • Responds to inquiries of staff, district personnel, other professional organizations, etc. for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as may be required.
  • Responds to issues involving staff, conflicts in policies and regulations, community concerns, parental requests that may result in some negative impact and/or liability if not appropriately addressed for the purpose of identifying the relevant issues and recommending or implementing a plan of action that will efficiently resolve the issue.
  • Servers as a resource to district personnel and as a liaison to various agencies (e.g. district committees, interagency boards) for the purpose of explaining procedures conveying and/or receiving information as needed for the purpose of explaining procedures conveying services related to special education.
  • Assists other personnel as may be required for the purpose of sporting them in the completion of their work activities.
  • Perform other duties as assigned;

 

Physical Functions:

 

  • Ability to sit, talk and hear for long periods of time;
  • Ability to use repetitive hand, arm and finger motions;
  • Ability to attend meetings during the day and in the evening at various locations in and out of the District;
  • Travel as necessary to conferences, seminars, trainings and meetings;
  • Ability to read information in various formats, research information and present information in oral and written form;
  • Ability to speak publically to groups of different sizes and discuss issues at hand;
  • Ability to lift up to 40 pounds occasionally, 20 pounds frequently; May lift up to 150 pounds with the assistance of another employee, some carrying;
  • Ability to push and pull individuals in wheel chairs;
  • Ability to walk for short distances on even and uneven surfaces;
  • Ability to work in an office environment with varying temperatures and noises;
  • Ability to operate equipment with finger and eye coordination;
  • Ability to disperse medications according to doctor’s orders;
  • May be exposed to human fluids and fecal material;

  • Ability to analyze data, provide input and articulate the need for changes.
  • Ability to connect with people with disabilities;

 

Essential Equipment:

 

  • Ability to operate phone, fax, computer, scanner, printer, calculator, smart board, etc.;
  • Ability to operate a vehicle;
  • Ability to operate wheel chairs, walking apparatus, and various medical equipment;
  • Ability to open prescription containers;
