Zolman’s Best One Fleet Service Kalamazoo – Seeking a full-time Commercial Tire Technician

Locally owned and operated, Zolman Tire, Inc. has serviced the automotive repair industry and tire service needs of customers throughout the Northern Indiana and Southern Michigan area since 1978. Over the years we have expanded into nine retail locations and five commercial fleet service locations. All of our locations are proud partners of Best One Tire and are Bridgestone Firestone Tire Dealers. 

We are seeking a qualified commercial tire technician for our location in Galesburg Michigan who values safety and teamwork. Techs will be responsible for removing, installing, rotating, balancing, and performing flat repairs on commercial and large equipment tires (in shop or at customer location). Hour's requirements are 8a-5p M-F, with willingness to work overtime as needed. Essential Functions:

• Remove, install, rotate, balance, and perform flat repairs on commercial and large equipment tires (in shop or at customer location), performed per TIA Commercial guidelines

• Safely separate and reassemble tires onto wheels, using specialized equipment

• Inspect casings for defects

• Locate and seal tire punctures (patch and plug)

• Prepare rims and wheel drums for reassembly by scraping, grinding or sandblasting

• Inspect vehicles using inspection forms and report potential repairs to supervisor

• Perform basic maintenance and repair

• Drive service truck to customer locations and for road service

• Raise and lower vehicles safely, with hydraulic or floor jacks

• Safely operate all shop machinery, including but not limited to: safety cage, spreader, balancer, floor jacks or lifts, air powered tools, torque wrench and/or torque sticks

• Operate and maintain diagnostic equipment Safely operate all service truck machinery, including but not limited to: all shop machinery, boom and hook

• Read work orders thoroughly and perform all listed tasks

• Perform general housekeeping duties

• Perform other duties as assigned

Physical Demands / Work Environment:

• Lifting: Frequent lifting over 50 pounds from ground to chest high.

• Squatting, bending, and twisting: frequent

• Repetitive motion

• Sustained vibrations

• Standing for extended periods of time.

• Read ticket and perform work listed; write confirmation and recommendation

• Environment: Work in environment that is not climate controlled. Temperatures range from extremely hot to extremely cold, depending on the season.

• Vision (Near, distance, Color, Peripheral, Depth Perception)

• Sense of sound (Alarms, horns and motorized equipment)

• PPE: Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) (Safety Glasses, gloves, safety harnesses, proper footwear)

Skills & Abilities:

Education:

High school graduate or general education degree (GED)

Experience:

1-2 years’ experience in passenger or commercial tire repair

Certifications/Licenses:

Valid driver’s license; driving record must meet company’s insurance requirements

Ability to obtain/maintain a DOT physical (for service trucks)

TIA Commercial 200 Level (company can provide)

Ongoing training is required per company’s standards

Computer:

Able to operate all diagnostics and alignment equipment
