This position is in Gloucester, VA
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Chef to join our culinary team. The ideal candidate will have a passion for food and a strong understanding of kitchen operations. As a Chef, you will play a crucial role in ensuring that our kitchen runs smoothly by preparing ingredients, with meal preparation, and maintaining high standards of food safety and cleanliness. We are a small business with more of a deli-style kitchen, not your typical restaurant kitchen.
As this position is located in Gloucester, VA, if relocation is required, we have a one-bedroom suite available for rent on-site.
Responsibilities
- Chef prepares breads-focaccia, biscuits, cornbread donuts, jellies-Pickled green tomato, hot pepper, & fig jam, cheese spreads-pimento, garlic herb Boursin, hummus, & seasonal spreads, sauces-Alfredo, strawberry, caramel, pesto, tomato sauce, pickles, crab cakes, seafood cakes, baked Brie, cuts deli meat and cheese for sandwiches and charcuterie, desserts- Crème Brulé pastry cream, tiramisu, no bake cheesecake, chocolate strawberries, & garnishes.
- Assist in menu planning and contribute ideas for new dishes or improvements to existing recipes.
- Maintain cleanliness in all kitchen surfaces and organization of the kitchen area, ensuring all food safety standards are adhered to.
- Operate kitchen equipment safely and effectively, including knives and food processors.
- Collaborate with other kitchen staff to ensure timely meal preparation and service.
- Participate in catering events as needed, assisting with setup, serving, and cleanup.
- Follow recipes accurately to ensure consistency in food quality and presentation.
- Monitor inventory levels of ingredients and supplies, reporting any shortages to management, and making sure to label and date items, and rotate appropriately.
- Help to create and promote wine dinner menus, special event menus, catering selection, & cooking demonstrations.
Skills
- Previous experience in a dietary department or as a dietary aide is preferred.
- Strong background in food preparation and cooking techniques within a restaurant or catering environment.
- Knowledge of food safety practices and proper food handling procedures.
- Excellent knife skills and familiarity with various cooking methods.
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Strong communication skills to effectively collaborate with team members.
