Director of Billing

Position Overview:
The Director of Billing is responsible for overseeing and optimizing the organization's revenue cycle management processes. This role supervises the Billing Department, ensures compliance with Medicaid and commercial billing regulations, and develops strategies to maintain high collections efficiency. The Director collaborates with leadership to enhance financial operations and provides strategic input for budget planning and reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Billing Management:
- Ensure timely submission of claims for ZÖe Pediatrics and ZÖe ABA across all payers.
- Generate and mail patient bills weekly.
- Maintain a 95% accuracy rate per biller.
- Manage encounter inventories, ensuring they remain within 90 days of service for all lines of business.
- Communicate with providers regarding claim inventories and outstanding claim actions.
- Oversee daily transmission of claims via the selected clearinghouse.
- Address clearinghouse rejections promptly and ensure daily resolution.
Payment Posting:
- Oversee daily payment postings, including payer ERA denials.
- Reconcile unposted balances daily.
- Collaborate with the CEO, COO, and Controller monthly to assess and write off doubtful accounts.
Revenue Cycle Reporting:
- Generate biweekly reports, including:
- Encounters in "Insurance Accepted" status.
- Encounters in ERA denial or clearinghouse rejection status.
- Denials by provider or Revenue Cycle Specialists.
- Common errors by provider or Front Desk staff.
Policy and Procedure Development:
- Develop and maintain Revenue Cycle policies and procedures to ensure compliance and efficiency.
Team Leadership:
- Supervise, hire, train, and retain Revenue Cycle Specialists (Levels 2 and 3).
- Maintain department staffing to meet organizational needs.
- Provide ongoing training and performance feedback to team members.
Compliance and Analysis:
- Monitor Medicaid bulletins for Georgia and Alabama and implement necessary updates.
- Participate in analyzing yield for commercial contracts.
- Ensure monthly remittance statements for commercial accounts.
- Collaborate with the COO to address Intake errors.
Financial Operations:
- Maintain charge master for ZÖe Pediatrics and ZÖe ABA.
- Assist with annual budget preparation and finalization.
- Reconcile cash collections and Front Desk functions with the COO and Controller.
- Manage outsourced financial activities related to the revenue cycle.
Audit and Reporting:
- Support the completion of financial reports (daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/annual).
- Collaborate with external auditors during biannual reviews or as needed.
Additional Responsibilities:
- Perform other duties as assigned by the organization.
Education and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred.
- Certification in Billing and Coding required.
- Credentialing/Certification preferred but not required.
- Minimum of 5 years of Billing and Collections experience.
- Proficiency in electronic databases and revenue cycle systems.
