Job Title: Senior Product Engineer
Location: Troy, MI
Responsibilities:
- Responsible to identify, design and develop a product/product family.
- Ensures production procedures efficiently utilize materials and personnel.
- Tests finished product for quality purposes and recommends changes to product specifications as necessary.
- They receive and process changes required by clients, released on production (not launches), at a SR Level, responsible to develop the product from the concept up to the SOP on a limited basis (if it is a BTP, Built to Print) or as a full development as an FSS, Full-Service Supplier.
- May develop, uncover, characterize, and assess strategic new products and/or product extensions.
- Transforms and adopts discoveries to ensure research and development activities will maintain an organization's competitive position.
- May also focus on pure research and/or design and implementing the manufacturing processes and equipment for the product
- Heavy travel, up to 35-40%
Requirements:
- Experience: 4 - 8 years of experience in product engineering, with direct experience in a Tier 1 automotive or OEM manufacturing environment.
- Core Tools: Proficient in AIAG core tools including APQP, PPAP, FMEA (DFMEA/PFMEA), Control Plans, and SPC.
- Technical Skills: Deep understanding of GD&T, tolerance stack-up analysis, and CAD software (CATIA, NX, SolidWorks).
- Knowledge Base: Specific expertise in IP, door panel, consoles
Preferred:
- Experience with Teamcenter or similar PLM systems.
- IATF 16949 auditor certification.
Education:
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field.
Designed and developed interior plastic components—including instrument panels (IP), door panels, and center consoles—from concept through production, ensuring quality, fit, and manufacturability.
