What are the responsibilities and job description for the UX Designer position at Zipcar?

We’re looking for a thoughtful and collaborative UX Designer to help shape the next generation of Zipcar’s digital experiences. You’ll design intuitive, human-centered solutions that make it effortless for members to find, book, and drive Zipcars — whether they’re commuting, exploring, or running errands.

You’ll work closely with product managers, engineers, and researchers to understand user behavior, identify opportunities, and craft experiences that delight our members and support Zipcar’s mission of sustainable urban mobility.

What You’ll Do:

  • Conduct user research, usability testing, and competitive analysis to inform product design decisions.
  • Translate insights into wireframes, prototypes, and detailed interaction designs that enhance the Zipcar experience across web and mobile platforms.
  • Collaborate with product, design, and engineering teams to ensure high-quality, consistent implementation of designs.
  • Iterate on designs based on user feedback, data insights, and business priorities.
  • Advocate for accessibility, inclusion, and sustainability in all aspects of design.
  • Contribute to and help evolve Zipcar’s design system to ensure consistent brand and interaction patterns.
  • Partner with UX researchers to validate design hypotheses and improve the end-to-end member journey.

Perks You’ll Get:

  • Competitive Medical, Dental, Vision, Life and Disability Insurance and other voluntary benefits through our parent company, Avis Budget Group
  • Generous paid time off, including holidays, vacation, personal, sick, volunteer and Parental Leave options
  • Tax-free benefit for public transportation or parking expenses
  • Bicycle Reimbursement program
  • 401(k) Retirement Plan with company matched contributions
  • Free Zipcar Membership and other employee discounts, including discounts on renting and buying Avis/Budget cars
  • Community involvement opportunities

What We're Looking For:

  • 3–5 years of experience in UX, preferably in consumer-facing or mobile-first products.
  • Proficiency with Figma
  • Strong portfolio showcasing thoughtful, user-centered design solutions and process.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to explain design decisions clearly.
  • A passion for designing a member-centric experience

The annual starting salary for this position is between $100,000-$110,000 annually. Factors that may affect starting pay within this range include geography/market, skills, education, experience, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.
