Equipment Painter

Position Summary

The Painter is responsible for preparing, finishing, and painting trucks, wreckers, and heavy equipment to meet quality and safety standards. This role involves surface preparation, color mixing, spray painting, detailing, and occasional light bodywork. The Painter must follow established procedures, prioritize safety, and maintain a clean and organized work environment while working independently and as part of a team.

Job Responsibilities:

• Prepare surfaces through sanding, cleaning, masking, and priming using appropriate tools and techniques.
• Inspect panels to be painted for body repair, prepping, and/or buffing defects
• Paint surfaces of trucks and wreckers using spray-painting equipment, power tools and work aids utilizing specific surface preparation and painting techniques
• Mix to specified color using standard formulas or color charts
• Sand, mask, blend, and polish finish to match surrounding areas. Retouch paint as necessary
• Perform light bodywork and fiberglass repair when necessary.
• Maintain inventory of paints and supplies, notifying supervisor when stock needs replenishment
• Work closely and communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and internal customers to ensure timely and quality completion.
• Uphold a clean and safe work area by following company safety protocols and housekeeping standards.
• Support preventive maintenance tasks on equipment and participate in on-the-job training.
• Perform other duties as assigned by manager or supervisor

Qualifications:

• High diploma or GED required
• 1–2 years of auto or heavy equipment painting experience required; 2 years preferred.
• Certification in automotive painting or related field a plus
• Basic mechanical aptitude and ability to troubleshoot paint and equipment issues.
• Respirator certified or able to pass certification annually or the ability to wear a fresh air hood
• Strong communication skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team setting
• Basic computer skills to document work orders and time tracking.
• Strong attention to detail, problem-solving skills, and commitment to high quality.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to climb, squat, and balance for up to 75% of the workday (6-8 hours)
• Lift up to 30 pounds regularly and up to 50 pounds occasionally
• Stand on concrete surfaces for 2-3 hours at a time
• Traverse facilities and machinery, including climbing, balancing, stooping, and lifting 75% of the workday.
• Perform detailed work with manual dexterity and stability.
• Maintain close-range vision, depth perception, and color recognition
• Work in moderate noise environments and frequently around paint fumes
• Must be able to wear a respirator and other protective gear for extended periods.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: From $21.00 per hour

Expected hours: 40.0 – 45.0 per week
