POSITION SUMMARY: In general the holder of this position is responsible for directing, administering and maintaining the district facilities and building management program throughout the district and maximizing the beautification of ZCS grounds. Under general supervision of Facilities and Grounds Manager, this position will train, assign, coordinate and supervise all ZCS facilities and grounds crews and personnel; review all work on school grounds and oversee performance of work.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to sit and stand, use hands to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to walk, reach with hands and arms, climb or balance and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.

The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS: While performing the duties of this position, the employee regularly works in an outdoor environment subject to changing temperatures exceeding 90 degrees at times. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud and the employee may be exposed to fumes, dust, odors and agents including fertilizers or insecticides.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned.)

Essential Functions:

Plan, assign and review work activities of assigned facilities and grounds maintenance crews and personnel; train all maintenance personnel in proper techniques and procedures with use of tools, equipment and chemical applications.

Participate in initial and ongoing training of all maintenance personnel.

Organize and supervise all spraying, mowing, pruning; inspect work in progress and upon completion for quality, accuracy and timeliness.

Oversee operation of power equipment including that all equipment is in safe operating condition.

Assist in reviewing and assigning work order requests to maximize effectiveness and inspect all completed work.

Continue to develop the efficiency of the work process, ensuring that all items have timely follow up and closure.

Coordinate with HVAC Technician to ensure all related duties are executed in a timely and efficient manner.

Supervise crews and oversee skilled work in planting, fertilizing, and pruning, spraying and maintaining shrubs, trees and landscaped areas.

Exercise responsibility for maintaining ZCS facilities in a safe, secure, and operational condition which maximize their useful life and which and provides an optimal setting for learning.

Oversee operation of power equipment and tools including that all equipment is in safe operating condition.

Coordinate and participate in pesticide applications as well as communicating with appropriate personnel to ensure timely public pesticide notifications and communication.

Oversee snow removal operations, salt, pumice and other applications on district property.

Coordinate irrigation personnel in planning, installing and repairing automatic sprinkler systems.

Prepare any and all records related to personnel, time keeping, work orders, equipment operation, and site inspections as directed.

Coordinate grounds personnel schedules and manage all requested time off appropriately.

Supervise and assist with evaluating assigned personnel; provide feedback and progressive discipline as needed.

Assist with effective set-up and tear down of graduation and any ZCS events as needed.

Manage the outdoor beautification of grounds using existing staff and outside contractors to meet all needs of ZCS within budgetary limitations.

Serve on the ZCS team of emergency response to facility needs 24/7 to include the Morning Eyes Team throughout the school year.

General Functions:

1. Communicate professionally and effectively with all employees, students and the public at all times.

2. Serve as exemplary role model in professional conduct, dress code, communications, safety and attendance.

Consistently follow and promote all district safety rules and regulations.

4. Transport a variety of tools, equipment and supplies to various district sites.

5. Other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor and COO.

PERFORMANCE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Extensive knowledge of general grounds maintenance and landscaping. Must be safety oriented and have the ability to train and manage personnel in proper techniques and procedures. Must have ability to give clear instructions and guidance to all grounds maintenance personnel.

Education: HS Diploma or equivalent required.

Experience: 3-5 years combined experience with grounds, maintenance and/or management preferred.

Certificate/License: Must possess valid Indiana driver’s license. Applicable insecticide/pesticide application license or certification desired.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $70,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
