Status of Employment: Part-Time/ All Year

Supervised By: Leisure Center Director and/or SAFS Shift Supervisor

General Statement of Duties: Supervising the fitness room. The Fitness Room Attendant is responsible for training and demonstrating the correct procedures when using the fitness room equipment to ensure proper usage and safety. Insure all Policy and Procedure are being followed by staff and participants.

Distinguishing Features of Position: Supervision of the daily operations of Leisure Center Fitness Studio for the Zion Park District. They will support the facility staff, and work with the customers and public using the Leisure Center.

Qualifications of Required knowledge and Abilities: Must be 16 yr old or older, experience in customer service experience a plus but not required. Must be able to make good decision following Park District policy and procedures. Excellent oral and written communications skills. Enthusiasm and passion for good work and continuous improvement. The individual must have strong customer service, and organizational skills along with the ability to interact with patrons and staff in a professional, courteous and helpful manner.

Hours: This position will work on average, 30 hours per week Monday through Sunday, depending on the needs of the Park District. Must be able to work a variable schedule, during Park District business hours. Work schedule to be approved by Supervisor.

Duties and Responsibilities – Essentials Functions – not limited to the following:

  • Arrives on time, in uniform and ready to work, as scheduled.
  • Effectively communicates, both verbally and in writing with supervisor, staff and public.
  • Customer service related inquiries and problems for both internal and external customers.
  • Assists patrons and callers with questions they may have concerning Leisure Center or Zion Park District.
  • May require to perform receptionist and custodial duties.
  • Assists other staff with special projects and performs other duties as assigned.
  • Insures that the building and work areas are maintained and organized professionally and in a positive atmosphere.
  • Responsible for understand the importance of safety issues at the Park District, for adhering to the safety manual and associated policies, toward achieving the safety goals of the Park District
  • Follow procedures for opening or closing the facility.
  • Clean and sanitizes the equipment and floor. Report any damages to equipment.

  • Seeing: To observe participants during programming, to be aware of safety concerns during programs.
  • Hearing: For safety awareness in programs, to communicate with the public in person and over the phone.
  • Speaking: To communicate with participants, parents, staff, volunteers and the public, to convey program and safety policies and procedures to staff and participants.
  • Sitting: To perform office tasks at desk, to sit in vehicle. To sit with participants on floor.
  • Standing: To supervise a program, to lead an active program, to speak to a group of participants, staff, parents or volunteers.
  • Walking To accompany participants from activity areas.
  • Fingering: To perform office tasks with the, computer, telephone, and writing utensil.
  • Running: To retrieve a runaway participant or hurry to prevent an accident or incident from occurring, to demonstrate the act of running in a program.
  • Lifting: To carry supplies to storage or program sites, to transfer a person with physical disability at a program. (up to 50 pounds)
  • Stooping: To clean up an activity area after program use.
  • Pulling/Pushing: To open and close file drawers, to open and close supply closets, to assist physically disabled participants in maneuvering at programs.
  • Climbing: To climb stairs at facilities.

Cognitive Considerations

  • Ability to comprehend written and verbal communications.
  • Ability to recognize and demonstrate sound safety measures.
  • Ability to reason; process information and make informed rational judgements.

Environmental Considerations

  • Works primarily in a climate controlled environment.
  • Some assignments would require exposure to a wide range of weather and environmental conditions.

Safety

Employee is responsible for understanding the importance of safety issues, rules, policies, and to comply with said rules and policies.

  • Report unsafe conditions and make safety recommendations.
  • Work to achieve goals and objectives of the Safety Committee of Zion Park District.
