Job Summary
A Personal Support Specialist (PSS) provides non-medical assistance and support to clients in their homes, helping them maintain independence, dignity, and quality of life. The PSS assists with activities of daily living (ADLs), companionship, and household tasks while following the client's care plan.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist clients with personal care activities such as bathing, grooming, dressing, and toileting.
- Provide mobility assistance, transfers, and ambulation support as needed.
- Assist with meal planning, preparation, and feeding when required.
- Perform light housekeeping duties, including laundry, dishes, and maintaining a safe living environment.
- Provide companionship and emotional support.
- Accompany clients to appointments, errands, and community activities when authorized.
- Observe and report changes in clients' physical, mental, or emotional condition to supervisors.
- Maintain accurate documentation of services provided.
- Follow all agency policies, confidentiality requirements, and safety procedures.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- PSS certification or willingness to obtain certification according to state requirements.
- Valid driver's license and reliable transportation preferred.
- Ability to pass background checks and other required screenings.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift, transfer, and assist clients safely.
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, and perform physical tasks for extended periods.
