What are the responsibilities and job description for the WRAIR Integrative Systems Biology for Military Health Internship/Fellowship position at Zintellect?
The Department of Defense (DoD) is offering Bachelor's, Master's, and Doctoral internships or fellowships at the U.S. Army Medical Research and Development Command - Walter Reed Army Institute of Research (USAMRDC WRAIR). This research opportunity is within the Center for Military Psychiatry and Neuroscience (CMPN), Integrated Systems Biology Branch whose aim is to apply robust and precise molecular-based solutions for military-relevant health performance, resilience and readiness.
Under the guidance of a mentor, you will have the opportunity to apply integrative biology approaches to understanding the etiology of, and find solutions for, military-relevant health issues. Integrative biology research and analyses are designed to understand, compare, and combine animal studies and human studies, computational simulations, and biologics (i.e., products derived from living organisms) acquired from human samples. Medical Readiness Systems Biology's (MRSB) main research focus is the identification and characterization of biomarkers for PTSD, pain and host responses to pathogens and radiation.
This research opportunity includes the following learning objectives:
- Learning whole genome sequencing
- Conducting metabolomic analysis
- Gaining experience in Ingenuity Pathway Analysis
- Conducting analysis of omics data using commercial and publicly available analysis tools for proteomic, genomic and metabolomic
- Learning microbiome analysis using sequencing
- Understanding new animal models for austere environments
Where will I be located?
Silver Spring, Maryland
What is the anticipated start date?
The WRAIR is ready to make appointments immediately. Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis, and internships or fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
