About the NASA Postdoctoral Program

The NASA Postdoctoral Program (NPP) offers unique research opportunities to highly-talented scientists to engage in ongoing NASA research projects at a NASA Center, NASA Headquarters, or at a NASA-affiliated research institute. These one- to three-year fellowships are competitive and are designed to advance NASA’s missions in space science, Earth science, aeronautics, space operations, exploration systems, and astrobiology.

Description:

This research opportunity focuses on ground-based remote sensing of atmospheric composition using high-resolution UV-visible-near infrared spectroscopy at JPL’s Table Mountain Facility (TMF). For more than 25 years, TMF observations have provided unique long-term measurements of key atmospheric constituents in support of NASA’s Atmospheric Composition objectives and satellite calibration/validation activities. Current capabilities include the Fourier Transform Ultraviolet Spectrometer (FTUVS), which measures column abundances of OH, and the Medium-resolution Ultraviolet Grating Spectrograph (MUGS), which performs direct solar, lunar, and scattered skylight measurements of species including BrO, NO2, and NO3.

We are seeking a postdoctoral scholar to advance the analysis and interpretation of long-term atmospheric composition records. Research areas may include, but are not limited to, investigating trends in HOx, NOx, and BrO chemistry, quantifying impacts on stratospheric ozone production and loss processes, studying atmospheric responses to episodic events, comparing ground-based observations with satellite datasets and atmospheric models, and developing new retrieval algorithms.
