What are the responsibilities and job description for the Postdoctoral Research Fellowship in Multidimensional Coherent Spectroscopy position at Zintellect?
The Air Force Research Laboratory is offering a postdoctoral fellowship at Wright Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.
What will I be doing?
As an Oak Ridge Institute for Science and Education (ORISE) participant, you will join a community of scientists and researchers in an effort to explore the fundamental properties of two-dimensional material monolayers and heterostructures as a function of electrical bias and temperature. This research aims to dispersion compensate an ultrafast, 10 fs, laser and integrate it into an existing cryogenic, multidimensional coherent spectroscopy setup for ultrabroadband application.
Through first-order spectroscopic techniques (i.e. reflection, absorption, transmission, etc.) many optical characteristics can be explored. However, these techniques ignore the possibility of higher order interactions which contain valuable information about the material’s intrinsic optical properties. For example, a system’s population lifetime, dephasing rate, inhomogeneous and homogeneous linewidth can be directly measured. Additionally, many body effects can be investigated as well as the ability to decouple complicated photoluminescence spectra resulting from multiple species like heterostructures. By examining the system’s third-order optical response through four wave mixing (FWM) techniques, these fundamental properties can be probed.
Why should I apply?
Under the guidance of a mentor, you will gain hands-on experience to complement your education and support your academic and professional goals. Along the way, you will engage in activities and research in several areas. These include, but are not limited to:
-
Learn to use nonlinear spectroscopy for investigating many-body physics phenomena in exitonic systems
-
Acquire skills in the use of cryogenic systems for ultracold characterization of materials
-
Research how to dispersion compensate ultrafast laser systems to maintain maximal bandwidth
-
Gain applied experience within a government research laboratory environment
Where will I be located?
Dayton, Ohio
What is the anticipated start date?
Exact start dates will be determined at the time of selection and in coordination with the selected candidate. Applications are reviewed on an ongoing basis and fellowships will be filled as qualified candidates are identified.
What is the appointment length?
This appointment is a twelve-month research appointment, with the possibility to be renewed for additional research periods. Appointments may be extended depending on funding availability, project assignment, program rules, and availability of the participant.
What are the provisions?
You will receive a stipend to be determined by AFRL. Stipends are typically based on a participant’s academic standing, discipline, experience, and research facility location. Other provisions may include the following:
- Health Insurance Supplement (Participants are eligible to purchase health insurance through ORISE)
- Relocation Allowance
- Training and Travel Allowance
About AFRL
The Air Force Research Laboratory leads the discovery, development and integration of affordable warfighting technologies for our air, space and cyberspace forces. The Sensors Directorate of AFRL focuses on affordable sensor and countermeasure technologies for reconnaissance, surveillance, precision engagement and electronic warfare systems. The goal is to provide robust sensors and adaptive countermeasures that guarantee complete freedom of air, space and cyber operations for our forces, and deny these capabilities to our adversaries. Core technology areas include radio frequency and electro-optical sensing, electromagnetic spectrum warfare, multi-domain sensing autonomy, resilient mission systems, and enabling devices and components.
