Duties
- Assist patients with activities of daily living, including bathing, dressing, grooming, and mobility support using equipment such as Hoyer lifts.
- Monitor and record vital signs accurately and report any abnormalities to nursing staff.
- Support medication administration following proper protocols and HIPAA regulations.
- Maintain detailed medical documentation within EMR/EHR systems like Cerner, eClinicalWorks, or other relevant platforms.
- Provide specialized care for patients with conditions such as Alzheimer's disease, dementia, or behavioral health needs.
- Assist with catheter care, wound care, and aseptic techniques to prevent infection.
- Support patient safety by adhering to infection control procedures and safety protocols in acute care, ICU, trauma centers, or outpatient clinics.
- Collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams across various healthcare settings including pediatric (PICU), geriatric (geriatrics), or post-acute care environments.
- Educate patients and families on health management plans and discharge instructions when applicable.
- Ensure compliance with all healthcare regulations including HIPAA and patient confidentiality standards.
Skills
- Proven experience in medical-surgical units, ICU, emergency medicine, or specialized areas such as hospice or behavioral health is preferred.
- Familiarity with EMR/EHR systems such as Cerner, eClinicalWorks, or similar platforms.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, physiology, and patient care procedures including vital signs monitoring and catheter care.
- Ability to perform basic life support (BLS) and demonstrate competency in infection control practices like aseptic technique.
- Experience working with diverse patient populations including pediatrics, geriatrics, individuals with disabilities or developmental disorders, and those requiring memory or Alzheimer's/dementia care.
- Strong communication skills for effective patient service and teamwork within fast-paced healthcare environments like Level I trauma centers or teaching hospitals.
- Compassionate caregiving attitude with the ability to handle sensitive situations involving behavioral health or mental health needs.
- Ability to work independently while following detailed medical orders and documentation requirements.
