About Us

Zingerman’s Mail Order is the online and catalog shop for Zingerman’s. We ship great food and gifts all across America. Everything from bread and cheese to cured ham and tinned fish.

The holidays at Zingerman's Mail Order are crazy, but fun. We grow from a crew of 150 to an organized swarm of nearly 500. People come to work here from all walks of life. Moms, dads, students, retirees, landscapers, dancers. Some people are in between jobs. For some, this is their first job. Some people come because they want to work with us for the long term. For some, it's to get some extra Christmas money. Any reason is fine with us. No experience necessary. Nearly everyone who works here started as a part of a holiday crew.

What kinds of things do you do in this job?

There are a lot of jobs in the warehouse.

• There are pickers who select the items.
• There are route runners who roam the warehouse to bring pickers the food, like olive oil and coffee cakes.
• There are checkers, the detail-oriented people (you know who you are!), who check box contents to make sure they are perfect.
• There are packers who perform feats of three dimensional Tetris to fit the foods in the box.
• There are the stackers who fill the truck with boxes, playing more 3D Tetris (sorry if we're dating ourselves!).
• There are cheesemongers who cut great big wheels of cheese into beautiful little wedges.
Plus many, many more.

What is the pay?

Day Shift: $15.50 & Night Shift: $16.50

Are there any other perks?

Absolutely. All training is paid. All breaks are paid. If you’re working a longer shift and there’s a lunch or dinner break, we make homemade meals and serve them for free. (They’re delicious.) You get a 50% discount on nearly everything we sell and a 10% discount at other Zingerman’s businesses like Zingerman’s Deli, Bakehouse, Roadhouse, and Miss Kim. Discounts at local businesses like Literati, Downtown Home and Garden and more.

Where is this job?

Zingerman’s warehouse is located at 610 Phoenix Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48108 . We are on the AATA bus route .

What does it take to get hired in our Warehouse?

We don’t have many hoops to jump through for this job. There’s just one: you’ll need to be able to work at least three shifts per week up to and including the week before Christmas. Here are the details. You can pick your start date. (Don’t worry if this all sounds complicated. When you come in we’ll talk through it together.)

• November (Part time hours)
  If you’re looking to work in November we need folks who are available to work day shifts - Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Shifts vary from 4 to 8 hours long. They start as early as 10am and end as late as 8pm.
• December
  Everyone works in December. You’ll need to be able to work at least three shifts per week. We work 6 or 7 days per week. We welcome people who seek a full time load of shifts and even want overtime.
  • 10am-8pm Day shift
  10pm-8am Night shift (begins Sunday, November 26th)
  

What kinds of skills are required for this job?

There’s absolutely no experience necessary to work with us. But there are a couple of things you’ll need to have to make this job work:

• The strength and endurance to lift 20 pounds during your shift while bending and being on your feet.
English proficiency.

Will I get full time work?

We aim to. You can expect part time hours at first. Full time hours come in December.

When does this job begin and end?

Work starts as early as November 2023. It ends on or around December 21st, 2023. You can pick your start date.

Can I apply for full time work after the job ends?

Yes, we encourage it. We'll have a limited number of part time positions at Mail Order plus part & full time positions elsewhere in the Zingerman's Community of Business after the job ends.

What's the hiring process like?

It’s quick. We don't have a typical interview for our holiday crew. We’ll ask you to come in to complete some paperwork. That’s it. When you’re done you’ll leave knowing when to return for your first paid shift. You can choose a date. We can get you working within one week, usually sooner. We aim to get you working and paid as soon as you can.
