Job Title: Staff Accountant

Position Summary:
Ziegler Industries is seeking a Staff Accountant to oversee our general accounting operations and ensure accuracy and compliance with GAAP. This role will play a key part in reconciling accounts, managing month-end closings, analyzing financial data, and providing insights to drive operational and strategic decision-making. The Senior Accountant will collaborate closely with senior leadership and operations teams to strengthen financial processes, improve efficiency, and support business growth.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply project-related accounting methods to document revenue and expenses in accordance with GAAP percentage of completion standards.
- Prepare and process weekly customer invoices based on project activity.
- Perform monthly unbilled sales/work-in-process calculations.
- Execute daily cash and credit card entries into the ERP system to enhance real-time reporting and month-end accuracy.
- Review monthly expenditures including labor, materials, tools, and capital projects.
- Maintain monthly balance sheet reconciliations and supporting documentation.
- Identify and record accruals, prepaid expenses, and other necessary adjustments.
- Analyze and summarize financial data to produce error-free reports and presentations.
- Support month-end (10-day close) and year-end close processes.
- Assist in financial statement preparation, budgeting, and forecasting.
- Partner with leadership to improve financial systems, policies, and internal controls.
- Support internal and external audit activities to ensure compliance.
- Perform ad hoc financial analyses to support operational decisions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field required.
- CPA or CMA certification required.
- 5-6 years of progressive experience as a Staff Accountant, Senior Accountant, or Controller.
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and project accounting (percentage of completion, job costing, accrual methods).
- Hands-on experience with NetSuite (including the Projects module).
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, large data analysis).
- Solid understanding of general ledger functions and month-end/year-end close.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- High attention to detail and accuracy in financial reporting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform sedentary work for extended periods, including keyboard use.
- Must be able to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally.
Clear vision and verbal communication abilities for working effectively with internal and external partners.
