About the role
We’re looking for a programming-first Cell Leader who can convert customer drawings and models into robust, efficient CNC programs—and then guide a small team to deliver on quality and schedule. This position blends advanced CAM work with day-to-day leadership of a machining cell.
Core responsibilities- Program CNC lathes and mills from customer drawings/specifications using Mastercam or Hypermill
- Generate 3D models or 2D drawings from customer inputs when required
- Develop setup sheets; select tools and define offsets; optimize for yield and cost efficiency
- Direct and assist setups for CNC mills and lathes; diagnose and correct programming issues
- Create purchase requisitions for tooling and BOM needs
- Collaborate with internal departments to resolve manufacturing and processing challenges
- Measure parts using calipers and inspection tools (personal or company-owned)
- Lead a cell with up to three CNC machines and manage up to one operator, including day-to-day oversight
- Maintain a safe, clean, organized workspace in accordance with OSHA guidelines
- Support continuous improvement and adhere to Zero Hour Parts’ quality management system (QMS)
- High school diploma or GED required; Associate’s in Engineering Technology or related field, technical certifications, or advanced apprenticeship a plus
- Minimum 1 year of CNC programming experience
- Minimum 4 years of machining experience (or manager-approved equivalent)
- Proficiency with Mastercam or Hypermill and strong computer literacy
- Strong blueprint reading; moderate GD&T required (strong preferred)
- Proficient with machinist gauges (calipers, micrometers, etc.)
- Experience with materials including steel, aluminum, stainless, plastics, titanium, copper, ceramic, and more
- Preferred: CNC prototype machining and setup experience
- Required: setup/operation of 3-axis mills or 2-axis lathes
- Preferred: setup/operation of 4- and 5-axis mills; 3-axis lathes and live tooling
- Demonstrated leadership ability; dependable, self-driven, adaptable; comfortable in a fast-paced setting
- Able to lift up to 50–75 lbs; able to sit/stand for long periods; willing to work overtime as needed
- CNC Lathes (2–4 axis and 5 axis)
- CAM: Mastercam or Hypermill
- Own day-to-day cell performance—safety, quality, delivery, and cost
- Uphold Zero Hour Parts’ QMS on all parts, projects, and jobs
- Partner with the Manufacturing Manager and cross-functional teams to drive improvements
