Job Summary
As a Product Engineering Intern at ZeroWheel, you will support the engineering and product development team in designing, prototyping, testing, and refining ZeroWheel’s hardware and software systems. This internship is designed to provide hands-on experience within a fast-growing fitness startup, while enabling you to contribute meaningfully to product innovation and performance.
You will work closely with the co-founders of ZeroWheel and engineering team members to assist in product design iterations, evaluate mechanical and software performance, support testing and validation efforts, and contribute to continuous improvement of ZeroWheel’s products. You will also collaborate cross-functionally with operations, marketing, and customer-facing teams to incorporate real-world feedback into product enhancements.
Responsibilities
- Product Design & Development – Support the design and iteration of ZeroWheel products, including mechanical components, systems integration, and user interface elements. Assist in CAD modeling, prototyping, and documentation of design changes.
- Prototyping & Testing – Build, assemble, and test product prototypes. Develop and execute testing protocols to evaluate performance, durability, and usability. Document results and recommend improvements based on findings.
- Product Performance Analysis – Analyze product data and user feedback to identify areas for optimization. Work with the engineering team to troubleshoot issues and enhance product functionality, reliability, and user experience.
- Manufacturing & Supply Chain Support – Assist in preparing designs for manufacturing, including creating technical drawings, bills of materials, and assembly instructions. Research and evaluate new vendors. Collaborate with vendors and internal teams to ensure product quality and consistency.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration – Partner with operations, marketing, and customer experience teams to translate user insights into product improvements. Support initiatives that align product development with customer needs and business goals.
- Documentation & Process Improvement – Maintain organized engineering documentation, including design files, testing reports, and version histories. Identify opportunities to improve internal workflows, tooling, and development processes.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18-years of age.
- Must have authorization to work in the United States.
- Must be enrolled as an undergraduate or graduate student in Engineering (Mechanical, Biomedical, Electrical, or related field) at the time of application or have graduated the semester immediately preceding the internship.
- Experience with CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, Fusion 360, or similar).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Familiarity with prototyping tools and methods (3D printing, basic machining, etc.) is a plus.
- Basic understanding of mechanical systems, product design, or embedded systems is preferred.
- Proficiency with Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides).
- Ability to work collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and time management skills.
- Enthusiasm for building, testing, and improving physical products.
- Willingness to travel to support product testing, demos, or on-site initiatives if needed.
Compensation
The compensation for this position will be based on relevant experience, discipline, school year completed, knowledge, and skills related to the open internship position. Total compensation will consist of base salary and potential performance-based bonuses. Compensation may vary based on location.
