What Will You Do?
Under the direction of the Engineering Team Lead, the Mechanical Designer will lead the design and development of mechanical components and electro-mechanical systems. This individual will execute multiple simultaneous projects and collaborate with teams on larger projects. Projects can range from new product development, line extensions, product improvements, change requests, and product cost reduction efforts.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Create part and assembly models and drawings utilizing configuration modeling techniques.
- Manage design files and documentation and create product structures in manufacturing ERP/MRP system.
- Understand the critical interactions and design characteristics which ensure robust system performance.
- Collaborate with engineering, operations, and quality teams to ensure designs are feasible and cost effective.
- Work with sourcing to select and implement appropriate manufacturing processes and vendors to ensure cost-effective, robust products that meet the product requirements.
- Support the creation and testing of prototypes to meet performance specifications and demonstrate technical feasibility.
- Conduct cross functional design reviews and support continuous product improvement objectives.

Requirements for Effective Performance:
- Associate degree in Mechanical Design or related field.
- 3 years design experience in mechanical and electro-mechanical products.
- 3D CAD experience required.
- Demonstrated experience overcoming obstacles to effectively execute engineering tasks.
- 3D Cad modeling proficiency in SolidWorks or equivalent.
- Experience in design of sheet metal, weldment, extruded plastic, and injection molded plastic parts.
- Familiarity with PDM systems.
- Possess a solid understanding of design fundamentals.
- Design for Manufacturability to better optimize production assembly of parts.
- Critical Problem-Solving Skills.
- Utilize collaborative design skills to identify optimal design solutions.
Skills/Abilities/Specifications:
- Have a working knowledge of any of the following disciplines: refrigeration, thermodynamics, economic/cost analysis, sheet metal, plastics, and fabrication methods.
- Literacy in any of the following computer packages: MS Word, MS Excel, CAD Packages (SolidWorks).
- Ability to use hand tools, measuring devices and test equipment.
- Knowledge of refrigeration componentry/systems and thermal performance.
- Experience working with engineering bill of materials and basic bill structure.
- Familiarity with ERP/MRP Systems (IFS) or equivalent applicable experience.
- Strengths of materials preferably including FEA.
- Working familiarity with ASME Y14.5.
- NSF, Department of Energy, ETL, and UL.
