Position Summary
The Production Assistant is responsible for preparing cannabis flower for sale by trimming, manicuring, weighing, packaging, and labeling in compliance with Maine’s Office of Cannabis Policy (OCP) regulations. This role ensures that cannabis products meet the company’s quality standards, regulatory requirements, and consumer expectations. Production Assistants handle product from post-harvest through final packaged form, ensuring consistency, accountability, and accuracy.
Key ResponsibilitiesTrimming Duties
- Hand-trim cannabis flower with care to preserve product quality, appearance, and potency.
- Remove excess stems, leaves, and undesirable material according to company SOPs.
- Avoid over-trimming to preserve trichomes and prevent product loss.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization in the trim room, following sanitation procedures.
- Meet daily/weekly productivity and quality standards.
Packaging Duties
- Accurately weigh cannabis flower and pre-rolls for packaging into consumer-ready units.
- Apply OCP-compliant labels with required information (license number, product type, batch ID, potency, warning statements, etc.).
- Operate packaging equipment (scales, sealers, labeling tools) safely and correctly.
- Verify product counts, weights, and packaging logs for accuracy.
- Assemble and label final products for retail sale, ensuring no mislabeling or contamination.
Compliance & Accountability
- Follow all Maine OCP regulations and company SOPs for cannabis handling.
- Maintain accurate records in Metrc (seed-to-sale tracking).
- Ensure child-resistant packaging is properly used.
- Report any discrepancies, product waste, or quality issues immediately to management.
- Adhere to workplace safety rules, including use of PPE and safe handling practices.
Team & Workflow
- Work collaboratively with fellow crew members in trim and packaging areas.
- Maintain consistent attendance and punctuality for scheduled shifts.
- Communicate respectfully and contribute to a professional, focused work environment.
- Remain flexible to assist in other post-harvest duties (drying, curing, inventory support).
Qualifications
- Must be 21 years old and eligible to work in Maine’s Adult Use Cannabis Program.
- Ability to obtain and maintain OCP-issued worker identification badge.
- Prior experience in cannabis trimming, cultivation, or packaging preferred.
- Strong attention to detail, manual dexterity, and ability to follow SOPs precisely.
- Basic math skills for weighing and packaging.
- Ability to sit, stand, and perform repetitive tasks for extended periods.
- Dependable attendance and teamwork are essential.
