About the Role
Zermatt Utah Resort & Spa is seeking an experienced Director of Finance to own the property’s accounting cycle and provide insightful financial leadership. You’ll prepare and analyze monthly financial statements, maintain accurate books and records, oversee AP, and ensure compliance with state and local tax requirements. This role partners closely with the General Manager and department heads (Rooms, F&B, Spa, Events) to drive profitability and operational excellence across multiple revenue streams.
What You’ll Do
- Lead day-to-day property accounting in accordance with US GAAP and company policies.
- Manage the full month-end close: journal entries, accruals/deferrals, bank recs, and timely financial statement delivery (P&L, Balance Sheet, Cash Flow).
- Reconcile all assigned balance sheet accounts monthly; submit reconciliations for review/approval.
- Oversee Accounts Payable, including the purchase order workflow and vendor management; ensure proper approvals and coding.
- Prepare, file, and remit Utah sales, lodging, and related taxes accurately and on time; maintain compliance documentation.
- Build and maintain internal controls and SOPs; support external/internal audits and ensure adherence to regulatory and contractual requirements.
- Provide clear variance analyses and rolling forecasts; advise the GM and department leaders on opportunities and risks.
- Support inventory controls and cost initiatives for F&B, spa/retail, and events; assist with capitalization and fixed-asset tracking.
- Partner cross-functionally to promote teamwork, service quality, and fiscal discipline; train managers on basic financials and PO/approval processes.
- Perform other related duties as assigned to support the resort’s goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting (required).
- 3 years of resort/hotel accounting experience (required); multi-outlet or full-service resort experience strongly preferred.
- Proficiency with MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); advanced Excel skills (lookups, pivots) a plus.
- Financial systems: experience with hospitality platforms such as M3 (preferred), and resort PMS/POS (e.g., Opera/Oracle, Lightspeed/MICROS/Toast) is a plus.
- Strong analytical and organizational skills; proven ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced, service-driven environment.
- Excellent communication and partnership skills; able to explain financial concepts to non-finance leaders.
- Fluent in English; Spanish a plus.
