What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part-Time Handyman, Gardener & Professional Cajun position at Zeringue Management?
This job goes by a few names - Part-Time Handyman & Gardener, or Jack-of-All-Trades Handyman, Gardener & Equipment Operator. Call it whatever fits. Here's the work.
We're a homeowner and small business just outside Thibodaux looking for one dependable, capable person to help keep the place running - house, grounds, and equipment.
Right now you'd be working alongside our current handyman, who is heading out on extended leave. He'll show you the property, the equipment, and how everything's set up before he goes - then you'll carry the load while he's out. Plenty of steady work either way.
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Handyman & general maintenance
- Basic carpentry, minor plumbing and electrical repairs
- Painting, pressure washing, fence and gate repair
- Interior fixes - doors, hardware, drywall patching, hanging and mounting
- Keeping an eye on the property and flagging problems before they get expensive
Gardening & grounds
- Mowing, edging, trimming, weed control
- Planting, mulching, and maintaining beds and a vegetable garden
- Seasonal cleanup, storm prep, and debris hauling
- Basic irrigation checks and repairs
Equipment operation & repair
- Running a tractor, mower, bush hog, trailer, and small implements
- Small-engine maintenance and repair - mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, pumps, outboards
- Routine service: oil changes, blades, belts, filters, tires, greasing
- Basic welding or fabrication is a plus, not a requirement
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
Required
- Reliable transportation and a valid driver's license
- Proven hands-on experience with home repair and property upkeep
- Comfortable operating a tractor and other outdoor power equipment safely
- Able to lift 50 lbs and work outdoors in south Louisiana heat
- Shows up when they say they will, communicates when plans change
Preferred
- Genuine interest in gardening - you actually like watching something grow
- Hunting and fishing experience - you know your way around a boat, a blind, a skinning shed, and the gear that goes with all three
- Small-engine and outboard motor repair skills
- Knows south Louisiana - the weather, the water, the seasons, and how things get done down here
- Welding, chainsaw work, or trailer maintenance experience
WHY YOU'D LIKE WORKING HERE
- Flexible hours - we'll work around your schedule, hunting season included
- Steady part-time work, not a one-off job
- Hands-on training from the person who currently does the job
- Tools and equipment provided
- You'll be trusted to run your own day
SCHEDULE
- Monday to Friday, flexible daytime hours
- Occasional weekend work for seasonal projects
- Approximately 15-25 hours per week
