What are the responsibilities and job description for the Managing Attorney position at Zenith?
This role is eligible to participate in Zenith’s hybrid work schedule which provides the flexibility to work from home on select days of the week according to the in-office schedule established by regional executive leadership. Selected candidate must be able to report into the Woodland Hills, California office on a weekly basis.
A Brief Overview
The incumbent in this position will typically be responsible for direct management and oversight of a group of claims legal trial attorneys and support staff. The trial attorneys managed by the incumbent in this position may be internal staff attorneys or external attorneys retained by the company, or a combination of the two groups. The incumbent may also have particular expertise in subject matters and/or technical skill sets relevant to their practice areas.
What you will do
- Responsible for the management of efficient operations in the Legal Department.
- Responsible for ensuring that legal claims are handled appropriately.
- Performs the work of a Sr. Trial Attorney, as necessary.
- Assigns calendar hearings.
- Handles Legal and Claims inquiries.
- Prepares necessary reports.
- Responsible for the training of all levels of Trial Attorneys and Hearing Representatives.
- Hires new employees; evaluates employee performance and recommends salary increases.
- Apply principles of logical thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
- Responds positively to direction and feedback on performance.
- Consistently maintain professional and appropriate demeanor.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.
Education Qualifications
- High School Diploma or equivalent combination of education and experience required
- Juris Doctorate Law school graduate and member in good standing of the State Bar required
Experience Qualifications
- Practical legal experience, including substantial workers' compensation involvement supervisory experience
Skills and Abilities
- Ability to lift legal files, including documents and exhibits, up to a weight of 30 pounds.
- Must be willing and able to travel extensively using all means of public transportation, as well as capable of prolonged automobile driving, in excess of three hours a day, to widely dispersed venues.
- Valid Driver License in good standing.
The expected salary range for this position is $198,212.68 to $220,236.31. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience, geographic location, and other job-related factors as permitted by law. Qualifications may warrant placement in a different job level.
