Job description
The Electrical Design Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and testing electrical systems and components for commercial, industrial, or residential applications. This role involves creating electrical schematics, ensuring compliance with U.S. codes and standards, supporting project execution, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to deliver safe, efficient, and cost-effective electrical designs.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and develop electrical systems, schematics, layouts, and wiring diagrams
- Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and voltage drop calculations
- Select electrical components such as breakers, transformers, panels, motors, and control systems
- Ensure designs comply with NEC (National Electrical Code), IEEE, UL, and local regulations
- Prepare technical documentation, drawings, and specifications
- Support manufacturing, construction, installation, and commissioning activities
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, and software engineers
- Review and approve electrical drawings and submittals
- Troubleshoot design issues and propose corrective actions
- Participate in design reviews and continuous improvement initiatives
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field
- 2-5 years of experience in electrical design (depending on level)
- Proficiency in electrical design software (AutoCAD, AutoCAD Electrical, Revit, or similar)
- Strong understanding of electrical principles, power systems, and control systems
- Knowledge of U.S. electrical codes and standards (NEC, NFPA, IEEE)
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and specifications
Preferred Qualifications
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status
- Experience with PLCs, control panels, or power distribution systems
- Familiarity with ETAP, SKM, or similar analysis tools
- Experience in industries such as construction, manufacturing, energy, or automation
