What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Scientist, Multiomics-----Cambridge, MA position at Zenith LifeScience?
Skills Needed
- Must-Have Technical Skills: Hands-on proficiency in Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) library preparation and condition optimization, paired with the bioinformatics/data analysis skills to analyze their own data (a wet-lab scientist, not purely computational).
- Must-Have Automation Experience: Direct experience applying lab automation to NGS library builds (or strong molecular biology automation experience easily transferable to NGS pipelines).
- Education & Experience Requirements: PhD in any biological science with 2–3 years of hands-on postdoc/lab experience, or a Master’s degree with ~10 years of hands-on experience (experience level fits between the current Scientist and Senior Scientist on the team).
- Nice-to-Haves & Flexible Areas: Prior industry/pharma/biotech experience is strictly a bonus (candidates coming directly out of academia/postdocs are welcome); the specific biological discipline is flexible as long as core molecular biology/in vitro lab skills are solid.
Job Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Senior Scientist contractor with broad expertise in multiomics, functional genomics, and next-generation sequencing (NGS) workflows to support oncology research. This hands-on role will be based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, with responsibilities divided approximately equally between laboratory work (50%) and data analysis (50%).
The successful candidate will design and execute multiomics studies spanning genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, and single-cell approaches; analyze and integrate resulting datasets; and communicate findings to cross-functional project teams. The role requires strong experimental judgment, computational capability, and the ability to independently advance multiple projects in a collaborative research environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Devote approximately 50% of time to laboratory work, including experimental design, sample preparation, assay execution, optimization, troubleshooting, and documentation.
- Perform and coordinate multiomics assays, including RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, and single-cell workflows, using fit-for-purpose approaches for each study.
- Devote approximately 50% of time to data analysis, including quality control, processing, visualization, interpretation, and reporting across multiple omics data types.
- Integrate genomic, transcriptomic, epigenomic, and single-cell datasets to generate biologically meaningful insights and support target discovery and validation.
- Develop, optimize, and document robust, reproducible experimental and analytical workflows and standard operating procedures.
- Maintain accurate sample metadata, experimental records, analysis outputs, and project documentation to enable cross-study data integration.
- Present integrated findings and recommendations clearly to scientists and cross-functional project teams.
- Collaborate with internal colleagues and external partners to coordinate study design, execution, data delivery, and timelines.
- Stay current with emerging multiomics technologies and analytical approaches, and recommend fit-for-purpose methods.
- Follow laboratory safety, data integrity, and quality standards.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in molecular biology, cell biology, genomics,, computational biology, or a related discipline, with relevant research experience.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience designing and executing multiomics or functional genomics studies.
- Experience with two or more complementary omics modalities, such as bulk or single-cell RNA-seq, ATAC-seq, CUT&RUN, DNA sequencing, proteomics, or related workflows.
- Demonstrated ability to analyze, integrate, and interpret complex multiomics datasets using appropriate computational tools, quality-control methods, and clear visualizations.
- Working proficiency in commonly used data-analysis environments such as R, Python, or equivalent tools.
- Strong experimental design, troubleshooting, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work independently, and deliver high-quality results on schedule.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills and demonstrated effectiveness in cross-functional collaboration.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience automating NGS sample preparation or related laboratory workflows.
- Experience integrating multiomics datasets to identify biological mechanisms, biomarkers, or therapeutic opportunities.
- Experience supporting oncology drug discovery or translational research.
- Familiarity with sample tracking systems, reproducible analysis workflows, cloud or high-performance computing environments, and data-management best practices.
