Position Overview:
We are seeking a skilled LiDAR Data Processing Technician to join our geospatial team. This role is responsible for processing, analyzing, and managing LiDAR datasets to support surveying, engineering, construction, and mapping projects. The ideal candidate will have strong technical expertise in point cloud processing, attention to detail, and the ability to work efficiently in a production-driven environment. This is a fully onsite position.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process raw LiDAR data (LAS/LAZ files) into usable deliverables
- Perform point cloud classification (ground, vegetation, structures, utilities, etc.)
- Generate Digital Elevation Models (DEM), Digital Terrain Models (DTM), and contours
- Conduct quality control and quality assurance checks on LiDAR datasets
- Align, calibrate, and register point clouds from multiple sources
- Extract features such as breaklines, buildings, and infrastructure
- Work with aerial and mobile LiDAR systems
- Integrate LiDAR data with GIS and CAD platforms
- Troubleshoot processing issues and improve workflows
- Maintain organized project files and documentation - Collaborate with surveyors, engineers, and GIS professionals
Qualifications:
- Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Geomatics, Surveying, GIS, or related field (preferred)
- 2 years of experience processing LiDAR data
- Proficiency with software such as DJI Terra, Trimble Business Center, Cyclone, etc.
- Strong understanding of coordinate systems and geospatial concepts
- Experience with CAD (AutoCAD, Civil 3D) and GIS platforms
- Ability to interpret survey data and field notes
- Strong attention to detail and problem-solving skills - Ability to meet deadlines in a production environment
- Experience with UAV/drone LiDAR data processing (preferred)
- Knowledge of scripting (Python or similar) (preferred)
- Familiarity with photogrammetry workflows (preferred)
- Experience with mobile LiDAR systems (preferred)
- Understanding of surveying principles and workflows (preferred)
