What’s the role?

The CIC Applications Development Scientist holds a pivotal role, leveraging advanced technical expertise to develop novel applications tailored to the unique demands of the life sciences industry. The outcomes of their work are integral to our growth strategy within this sector.

The Role Encompasses Three Primary Responsibilities

Supporting customers at our partner site and enabling their success, Designing and conducting experiments using ZEISS imaging solutions, either independently or through collaboration with customers, and Effectively communicating findings to drive impact with the target audience.

To excel in this position, you must possess the following attributes:

Excellent communications & time management skills, along with the ability to learn quickly and thrive in a highly collaborative environment, A deep understanding of at least one of the key areas within life sciences, such as cell biology, oncology, immunology, metabolic disorders, or neuroscience, and Previous hands-on experience with light microscopy sample preparation, operation and image analysis. Ideally with expertise in high throughput scanners, high content screening or confocal and associated image analysis.

Here’s What You’ll Do

The primary responsibility of an Applications Development Scientist – Biotech & Pharma is to generate new applications that is specific to the target market. In this capacity, you will

  • Spearhead the development and refinement of light microscopy applications tailored for the biotech industry, with a focus on enhancing imaging capabilities and addressing specific research challenges.
  • Collaborate closely with biotech & pharma clients to understand their unique requirements and deliver customized microscopy solutions that meet their needs.
  • Generate compelling white papers that showcase the innovative applications of microscopy in biotech research, driving thought leadership and fostering industry collaboration.
  • Produce new applications content, including technical and application notes, to demonstrate the versatility and efficacy of microscopy solutions in addressing biotech research needs.
  • Prepare and present scientific posters at industry conferences, showcasing advancements in microscopy applications and their impact on biotech research.
  • Deliver engaging talks and presentations at conferences and symposiums, sharing insights and expertise on microscopy applications in biotech research and fostering collaboration within the industry.
  • Closely monitor the microscope performance and initiate communication with service team to minimize system downtime at the facility. Taking proactive measures and following internal process is required.
  • Support LM training and workshops at incubator sites ensuring effective knowledge transfer.
  • Own and manage the preparation of samples to support all apps dev activities.
  • Quickly and effectively communicate the needs and challenges of a customer to the account management team.
  • Build competitive awareness and position our products for success in the target market.
  • Maintain the working environment at high standards and keep it welcoming and customer friendly in accordance with the ZEISS brand.
  • Be responsible for your personal safety at incubator site and when visiting labs and institutions by understanding the basics of lab behavior and an awareness of risks.
  • Take ownership of direct T&E expenses via strategic planning and employing cost effective measures to the support business.

Do you qualify?

  • Masters or higher in Cancer Biology/ other Biological Sciences, preferably from an accredited college or university
  • 3 years of working knowledge is on high-end microscopy. Experience may include widefield, automation microscopy, laser scanning microscopy, and advanced imaging techniques such as automated time lapse with Z-stack, etc.
  • Working knowledge of or prior work experience overseeing a shared instrumentation (Core) lab or experience of working with multi-faceted groups in the industry
  • Sample preparation skills like cell culture, transfection, organoid culture and tissue staining is valuable
  • Solution oriented problem solver with excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Implementation of MS Office, related software and strong presentation skills is required
  • Positive “can do” attitude coupled with a willingness to continuously acquire product and application knowledge independently

Nice To Haves

  • Spatial biology experience is advantageous
  • Strong knowledge of ZEISS software solutions such as ZEN Software, Intellesis, Connect, arivis etc are advantageous
  • Knowledge of microscopy workflow solutions including image analysis, data visualization and coding skills is a plus
