What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Information Technology, Bezos Earth Fund position at Zefram LLC?

The Bezos Earth Fund is a new and fast-growing philanthropy dedicated to combating climate change and protecting nature. We are looking for an Information Technology Director to lead the information technology operations, services and support for the Earth Fund. In that capacity, the Director will provide oversight and leadership of the organization’s infrastructure, systems and integration, data storage and backups, site reliability engineering, facilities and securities technologies, user access management and end user support. 

Reporting directly to the Chief Financial & Operating Officer (CFOO), the Director will help to develop, establish, and improve all aspects of the information technology function, lead system planning and implementations with partners and provide support and training to staff on technologies and best practicesThe Director will build strong partnerships and collaborations with internal operational and programmatic stakeholders, as well as 3rd party partners. The Director will be a collaborative leader in the field, sharing best practices between peer organizations and the Earth Fund to improve its IT operations. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Provide direction and thought leadership to the organization relative to state-of-the-art use of technology, information and knowledge management strategies; identifies business and operational needs and translates those needs into technology decisions and business systems 
  • Lead and manage a team of staff and 3rd party partners overseeing all infrastructure, network and systems engineering, data storage and backups and related technologies, platforms and applications 
  • Lead the design, development, implementation and maintenance of systems, programs, integrations and systems software to meet the organizational strategic and operational needs 
  • Lead the IT support function to ensure superior customer service and user support, through staff and outsourced provider team members  
  • Partner with internal and external stakeholders on data analytics, reporting and system integrations to ensure programmatic and operational goals are met 
  • Ensure information and cyber security best practices and compliance are upheld and implemented, in partnership with cyber security and related technologies 
  • Design and establish disaster recovery procedures to ensure retrieval of all data and system software 
  • Monitor and evaluate 3rd party partners to ensure performance alignment 
  • Develop and implement policies, standards, practices, and security measures to ensure effective and consistent information processing and to safeguard information resources 
  • Design, establish and deliver a training program for new employees and ongoing training for existing employees 
  • Perform other duties as assigned  

 

Experience and Skills:  

The Earth Fund is a new entity with lofty goals, and this opportunity represents a unique way to align one’s professional skills with one’s values and personal mission. The organization seeks a professional who has:  

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience, MBA or relevant advanced degree preferred  
  • At least 10 years of managerial experience with a deep understanding of information technology  
  • Experience working in philanthropy and/or nonprofits (preferred)  
  • Passion for the Earth Fund’s mission  
  • An entrepreneurial spirit and is strategic thinker 
  • Proactive, creative, flexible mindset with the ability to quickly adapt to the evolving needs of a growing organization  
  • Exceptional analytical, and critical thinking skills, as well as outstanding problem-solving abilities  
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; Ability to synthesize large amounts of information (technical, legal, financial, and anecdotal) and communicate clearly key information  
  • Proven ability to evaluate, improve, manage, and maintain systems and processes, including various technology software, hardware and processes, strong commitment to continuous improvement 
  • Flexible and independent, able to think outside the box and make decisions in a dynamic environment  
  • Strong integrity, work ethic, as well as a commitment to professional excellence, fiduciary duty, and discretion  
  • Excellent interpersonal communication and experience in collaborating with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders  


Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: 

  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer  
  • Preferred location is Washington DC, but flexible for extraordinary candidates
