About Zeeva

Zeeva Behavioral Health is a woman-owned, therapist-founded and therapist-led group psychotherapy practice serving clients throughout California.

We believe exceptional mental health care should be deeply human and accessible. That's why we intentionally work with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and most major commercial insurance plans. Making quality care accessible isn't an afterthought. It's part of who we are.

We're a growing, boutique practice built on clinical excellence, meaningful relationships, and five core values: Heart-Centered, Dedicated to Excellence, Inspired Learning, Brave Reflection, and The Power of We.

The Opportunity

Zeeva is seeking an experienced, self-directed Medical Billing & Credentialing Specialist to provide comprehensive revenue cycle management and clinician credentialing services on an independent contractor basis.

We're looking for an established professional who can independently manage complex billing functions, resolve outstanding claims, recover revenue, and maintain accurate credentialing records.

This engagement is best suited to someone who knows how to assess existing systems, identify problems, and deliver measurable results without requiring extensive direction.

You don't consider a claim complete because it was submitted. You follow it through until it's paid or appropriately resolved.

You don't just complete tasks. You own outcomes.

Scope of Services

Medical Billing & Revenue Cycle Management

  • Manage Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance claims from submission through payment or documented final resolution.
  • Investigate and resolve rejections, denials, underpayments, appeals, and outstanding insurance AR.
  • Handle secondary billing, coordination of benefits, and payer discrepancies.
  • Independently manage client balances, statements, payment follow-ups, payment arrangements, and account resolution.
  • Reconcile payments, EOBs, ERAs, and deposits, identifying discrepancies and unapplied payments.
  • Review aging accounts, pursue recoverable revenue, and prevent avoidable timely-filing losses.
  • Identify recurring billing issues and implement corrective processes.

Credentialing & Enrollment

  • Manage clinician enrollment and recredentialing with Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance plans.
  • Maintain CAQH, PECOS, payer portals, provider records, and directory information.
  • Track applications, approvals, effective dates, renewals, and required follow-ups.
  • Verify payer enrollment and billing eligibility, resolving discrepancies and preventing lapses.

Reporting & Process Improvement

  • Conduct an initial review of existing billing, AR, and credentialing workflows.
  • Develop a prioritized plan for addressing outstanding claims and operational gaps.
  • Maintain accurate claims, AR, and credentialing records.
  • Deliver weekly status reports outlining collections, outstanding AR, denials, client balances, credentialing progress, and unresolved issues.
  • Document workflows and recommend process improvements that strengthen accuracy and efficiency.
  • Review insurance eligibility and verification discrepancies, addressing issues that could affect reimbursement.

Professional Qualifications

We're looking for someone experienced, resourceful, persistent, and exceptionally organized.

You understand payer requirements, know how to investigate complicated claims, and take responsibility for achieving results.

You communicate clearly, identify problems early, and provide accurate updates without being prompted.

Required

  • 5 years of hands-on medical billing experience.
  • 3 years of provider credentialing and payer enrollment experience.
  • Strong knowledge of Medicare, Medi-Cal, and commercial insurance.
  • Demonstrated success recovering aged AR and resolving difficult denials.
  • Experience managing client balances and insurance-related account issues.
  • Proficiency with CAQH, PECOS, and payer enrollment systems.
  • Ability to independently manage multiple priorities and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Strong HIPAA-compliant practices and secure handling of confidential healthcare information.

Preferred

  • Behavioral health and psychotherapy billing experience.
  • Familiarity with IntakeQ/PracticeQ and TriZetto.
  • Medical billing or coding certifications.
  • Experience independently managing revenue cycle services for group practices.

Contract Terms

  • Compensation: $25–$30 per hour, based on experience and qualifications.
  • Engagement: Independent contractor (1099), subject to applicable classification requirements.
  • Location: Remote, within the United States.
  • Workload: Ongoing engagement, with estimated service hours and deliverables established by agreement.
  • Schedule: Contractor manages their own work schedule and methods, while meeting agreed service deadlines and coordinating with payer business hours as necessary.
  • Equipment: Contractor supplies their own appropriate equipment and workspace, subject to Zeeva's privacy and information-security requirements.
  • Performance: Services evaluated based on accuracy, timely completion, documented resolutions, and agreed deliverables.

The engagement will be governed by an independent services agreement outlining scope, compensation, confidentiality, HIPAA requirements, access controls, and termination provisions.
