Zebra Care is hiring Direct Support Professionals (DSPs) to provide compassionate, hands-on support to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
Role Overview
As a DSP, you will be directly responsible for the safety, well-being, and personal growth of the individuals you support. The role is both a job and a career opportunity to make a positive, lasting impact in their lives.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide one-on-one support to individuals living in the residence or in the community, encouraging independence, community engagement, and group outings.
- Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as self-care, grooming, and hygiene to the extent needed.
- Support and train individuals based on their wants, needs, and goals, helping them develop life and vocational.
- Transport clients to appointments, medical visits, and community activities using safe driving practices.
- Encourage participation in social, recreational, and skill-building activities.
- Maintain a safe, supportive environment that promotes personal growth and mental wellbeing.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Education: High school diploma or GED (required).
- Licenses & Certifications: Valid NJ or out-of-state driver’s license; registered and insured vehicle; CPR and First Aid certification (required).
- Experience: Prior experience working with individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities preferred.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal skills, empathy, patience, and the ability to work collaboratively in a team.
- Language: American Sign Language and/or Spanish preferred.
Work Schedule & Shifts
- Shifts: Day, evening, night, weekends, and possible overnights.
- Hours: 4–12 hours per shift; total hours typically 20–40 per week.
- Flexibility: Must be able to adjust to varying schedules and work with clients’ needs.
Pay & Employment Type
- Pay rate: $15–$19/hour depending on experience and position type.
- Employment: Temporary, part-time, or full-time.
- Work location: In-person, on-site in Closter, New Jersey.
