Mainframe Systems Engineer – Contract to Hire
Location: Remote with occasional travel to Washington, DC (1–3 times per year)

Seeking a Mainframe Systems Engineer to support, manage, and enhance a large-scale z/OS environment for a Federal program. Role is primarily remote with minimal travel.Eligible States
AZ, DC, FL, GA, OH, OK, ME, MD, NC, SC, TX, UT, VA, WVRequired Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree 8 years, or 12 years of relevant experience
- Strong z/OS experience including:
- MVS/JES/USS commands
- WLM, JCL, REXX, CLIST
- SDSF, TSO/ISPF, IPCS
- Unix, STCs, batch processing
- Collecting documentation for IBM support
- Experience with tools:
- LRS VPS/DRS
- MVS Quick Ref
- Connect Direct
- TN3270 tools (Rumba, Reflection)
- FTP clients
- Mainframe hardware/software upgrade experience
- Disaster Recovery failover and failback experience
- Working with IBM developers and vendors on defects/errors/performance issues
- Audit support experience
- Strong troubleshooting and Root Cause Analysis skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities
Key Responsibilities
- Support and maintain daily mainframe system operations
- Install, maintain, and upgrade system hardware/software
- Analyze performance and optimize system efficiency
- Conduct system checks and troubleshoot proactively
- Develop mainframe procedures, policies, and management processes
- Ensure full hardware/software/application integration
- Manage backups and data recovery
- Provide technical support to users/teams
- Create/maintain system documentation
- Apply patches, updates, and maintain system security
- Develop and maintain Disaster Recovery plans
- Collaborate with developers and analysts
- Participate in on-call rotation (evenings/weekends/emergencies)
- Stay current with mainframe technology advancements
