JOB DESCRIPTION
 

TITLE:Teacher -Title I / ReadingREPORTS TO:Principal of Building

 Under the direction of the principal, a teacher's career includes planning lessons in line with administrative, state and national curriculum objectives, supporting students through personal and academic difficulties and enforcing rules both in and out of the classroom. A  teaching career also involves monitoring and reporting student strengths and weaknesses through regular tests, exams, parent conferences and report cards.
 
TRAINING QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor's Degree in teaching field, reading endorsement preferred.
  • Certified by the Ohio Department of Education.
  • Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

 
REQUIRED SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Communication Skills: Must be able to read, analyze, and interpret information relevant to the position, including being able to speak effectively to small and large groups of people, and to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing.
  • Leadership Ability: Must be able to articulate a vision and mission for the district and provide the appropriate direction, guidance, and management skills to achieve them.
  • Mathematics Skills: Must have the ability to work with basic mathematical and computational concepts.
  • Reasoning Ability: Must be able to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Technology Skills: Able to effectively use, as it applies to your specific job function, typical office applications and computer programs such as word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations; must be able to use email.

JOB GOAL
The Title I teacher promotes and develops successful reading instruction for students and performs related duties in accordance with District policies and terms of the teacher contract. The Title I teacher is responsible for group and individual instruction of reading for students who meet state and federal guidelines. The Title I teacher supervises and develops lessons for paraprofessionals, and measures student progress. The Title I teacher is also responsible for partnering with parents through collaboration, communication and training.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Assist in the planning and development of the Title I Reading and Math programs or other targeted areas of need the school is addressing.
  2. Assists staff in interpreting students' needs and progress in reading, math and/or other targeted areas.
  3. Assists staff with plans and implements reading, math and other targeted programs as necessary.
  4. Assists staff with coordination and makes research-based strategy recommendations in the regular program of reading, math or other targeted instructional areas.
  5. Recommends use of varied instructional materials, reference works, kits, trade books, audiovisual aids, etc. Conducts in-service workshops and demonstrations pertinent to methods and materials appropriate to various levels of reading and math instruction.
  6. Make home visits to assess and provide assistance in overcoming barriers to student academic success.
  7. Regularly observes reading, math instruction and other targeted areas of need and helps staff improve student performance through the use of research-based strategies.
  8. Confers with parents concerning individual students having academic difficulties.
  9. Interprets, as appropriate, test results and statistical data concerning Title I reading, math and other targeted areas to the administration, staff and public at large.
  10. Collaborates with the classroom teacher to assist with instruction, researched based strategies and record keeping.
  11. Assists with the development of special instructional programs for Title I students
  12. Devises and maintains such records and reports as are necessary to the successful execution of the job and submits all required records to the Principal and/or the Title I Coordinator.
  13. The teacher demonstrates content knowledge within own discipline(s) and in application(s) to other disciplines.
  14. The teacher designs/plans instruction that develops student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  15. The teacher creates a learning climate that supports the development of student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  16. The teacher assesses learning and communicates results to students and others with respect to student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
  17. The teacher collaborates with colleagues, parents, and other agencies to design, implement, and support learning programs that develop student abilities to use communication skills, apply core concepts, become self-sufficient individuals, become responsible team members, think and solve problems, and integrate knowledge.
