General Description
The Senior Park Facility and Sign Technician works alongside and trains Park Facility and Sign Technicians to perform a wide variety of skilled mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other trade-oriented tasks to maintain County parks, facilities, structures, as well as mechanical and signage systems. This position combines hands-on maintenance work with leadership responsibilities, including assisting the Manager with guiding and training team members to ensure all work is performed according to best management practices, industry standards, safety protocols, and County policies and procedures. All Park Facility and Sign Technician tasks may include routine construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, and sign repairs, performing general work orders to support facility operations, as well as other related duties as assigned to support departmental initiatives. Additionally, all Park Facility and Sign Technicians are classified as “Essential Personnel” and may occasionally be required to work extended shifts, nights, weekends, and/or during emergency weather events.
Essential Job Functions
~ Assists in guiding, training, and mentoring Park Facility and Sign team members on proper methods, equipment use and safety procedures related to parks facility and sign maintenance tasks such as mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and other trade-oriented tasks.
~ Promotes a culture of safety, professionalism, teamwork, and stewardship within the Parks Division.
~ Identifies emergency maintenance needs, recommend improvements, and ensures timely and effective completion of repairs.
~ Works with the Parks Manager to maintain accurate records of training, work activities, and equipment use.
~ Monitors work quality and productivity to ensure the tasks are completed efficiently and align with the manager’s direction.
~ Interacts professionally with the public and responds to questions or concerns as appropriate.
~ Inspects parks, facilities, and equipment; identify maintenance needs and report issues to supervisors.
~ Repairs, maintains, troubleshoots, installs, and/or directs licensed contractors for the same, related to skilled commercial plumbing, electrical, and mechanical systems within County parks and facilities.
~ Completes departmental work orders by construction, maintenance, or moving items or equipment in order to maintain County property and park facilities.
~ Designs, fabricates, and installs signs using aluminum, metal, and wood materials and inspects.
~ Regular technology usage to include work order system data entry, and e-mail communications with internal and external customers.
~ Supports the County snow removal operation for County maintained sites and works with the Parks Department when responding to countywide situations and emergencies as Essential Personnel for the County.
~ Provides related support for departmental events.
~ Perform related duties as assigned.
Requirements/Preferences
Education:
Required: High school diploma or equivalent. Preferred: High school diploma or equivalent supplemented by trade or technical courses in HVAC, electrical, plumbing or related commercial building field.
Experience
Required: Minimum of five or more years of experience in construction, carpentry, electrical, plumbing, or commercial maintenance field. Preferred: Minimum of one year experience in direct supervision of employees, quality control, or evaluation of work.
Certifications/Licenses
Required: Valid driver’s license with a good driving record. First-aid/CPR and forklift certification or ability to obtain within the first year of employment. Preferred: Master Tradesman License issued by the Commonwealth of Virginia
Knowledge, Skills And Abilities
Possess carpentry skills and abilities for maintenance and construction of park facilities. Possess plumbing, electrical, and mechanical skills and abilities for maintenance and construction of park facilities. Ability to make precise and accurate measurements and execute detailed work. Ability to train others on sign-related equipment, tools, and practices. Ability to effectively demonstrate good public relations and communication skills. Knowledge and experience in the operation and input of information in a computerized work order system. Ability to read blueprints and understand production orders in order to calculate material lists. Ability to track supplies and order materials to maintain appropriate stock levels and inventory. Ability to operate small motorized equipment. Ability to work in varying temperatures and locations, including inclement weather. Ability to follow oral and written instructions.

Subject to a complete criminal history and Child Protective Services background search and DMV driving record review with acceptable results. Following a conditional offer of employment, must pass a post offer physical examination.
